“Simply the best tour out of Airlie”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

A friend and I went out in July. We were concerned that the high winds would cancel this trip out on the tall mast Derwent Hunter. Nope. This ship excels in the wind. We had a blast carving through big rollers out to a protected secluded beach/reef area. We snorkeled for quite a while and what I saw out there was comparable to what I saw two days earlier, but 50 km further out, on the great barrier reef! Beautiful! The crew of 3 really took care of us, were very professional and clearly were masters of the boat. It was also clear that they love to sail that boat. We passengers got to pull up sails and adjust the peak and all kinds of sailor stuff. The food was cold buffet, and plenty of it. Both of us are vegetarian, and there was plenty of variety for us. The served coffee and tea even when we were rolling through the waves. They provided yellow slickers for the inevitable spray, but expect to get a little wet if the seas are high.
I really didn't know what to expect on this trip, but what expectations I did have were certainly exceeded.

“No age Barrier”

We had a fantastic day out with the crew on The Derwent Hunter. We were a group of 13 aged 5 months to 68 years old. everyone had a fantastic memorable time. if you have never been on a sailing ship before you don't know what you are missing. The crew were fun and helpful. the food was fresh and plentiful. Will cross that one off the bucket list and do it again.

“Derwent Hunters Youngest Crew”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

We had a family get together for my fathers 65th birthday and all 13 of us booked on a day trip with Derwent Hunter. Most of us live in Cairns so the trip was booked more for the experience of the 'Tall Ship' than for the reef (we are a little bit spoilt up here) - but we were pleasantly surprised by the entire day!

The staff were a lot of fun and were very helpful with the 5 month old that came with us that day. Check out her pic behind the wheel!

I think we experienced all weather conditions in one day, the morning was cold and wet, it cleared up for our snorkelling adventures (wet suits were needed for this North Queensland girl! brrrr) and the ride home was wet, wild and exciting - I'm the King of the World!!! (said as waves splash up in our face at the front of the ship). They even got passengers in to help with the rigging up of the sails - I quite happily volunteered my father for that! haha!

The food was....never ending! The morning tea (hot coffee!! biscuits and cakes), the lunch (YUM! so much to choose from) and the afternoon tea (cheese and biscuits to go with our wine!)

I highly recommend the Derwent Hunter to anybody visiting Airlie Beach - even on an imperfect day the trip was still amazing!

“Wow - we were blown away! Figuratively and Literally!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

While holidaying in the Whitsundays we wanted an authentic sailing experience and the Derwent Hunter delivered just that. We had a great crew of three - Kat, Amy and skipper Wazza who were all knowledgeable, helpful, professional and fun. There ended up being only 5 of us joining them for the day which meant everyone could help out on deck - fantastic! We sailed the Whitsunday Passage with 25 - 30 knot wind so this was "real" sailing complete with lurching decks and sea spray on our faces but what excitement and exhilaration! Much needed wind jackets were provided by the crew. Then a beautiful quiet and completely secluded little bay was found for morning tea/coffee and cake off Hooke Island before fabulous snorkelling viewing coral, an array of fish and two turtles all to ourselves! Back on board after a hot shower a delicious lunch was provided and then with drinks and a cheeseplate we set sail for the return journey. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend booking with Derwent Hunter - you will not be disappointed!!

“Fantastic day on the water”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

We only had 1 full day in Airlie Beach and we're so glad that we chose to do this tour, we both had so much fun from experiencing hoisting the sails to snorkeling with sea turtles and a huge variety of reef fish and then relaxing on the deck with a few drinks as we sailed back to the marina. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants a taste of the beauty that the Whitsundays region has to offer.
There was plenty of food on offer throughout the day and everyone else on the tour seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we were. Everyone went home smiling.
