Putting aside the actual experience of snorkling on the great barrier reef (which is amazing), the actual trip out to the reef was passable. There was nothing extraordinary about the trip, the staff were very friendly, the buffet was...well, let's be honest this is not about the food. The buffet was limited, and quite ordinary.
My suggestion is to ignore the people that complain that the reef is 'dead', because that is not the fault of the company taking you out there. Nor can they control the weather. They did a servicable job, and it was quite fun. If you book through a hostel you can get a scuba dive for $50, not something to sneeze at!
