“An awesome place to stay in palm cove”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

This was a fantastic hotel. Went with my partner and the kids in mid Jan 2013. 2 bedroom dual key apartment with ocean views. Kids had their own room, toilet, bathroom, tv, balcony - they loved it. More importantly, we loved our privacy in the main apartment which had a common door with the kids' room. Our apartment had all the cooking facilities you would ever hope for, hob, oven etc. - heaps of cookware and cutlery, appliances (toaster, microwave, etc.), decent medium sized refrigerator (not just a bar fridge), flat screen TV's, ceiling fans, air con, huge balcony with its own al-fresco dining table to seat 6 (easily seats 8) in addition to the one that seats 4 inside. Seriously, all you had to do was go to the local supermarket and stock up. Even the local liquor land outlet is just around the corner - sweet!! OK, so the only possible issue was the presence of microscopic ants in the apartment (very few and they posed no inconvenience whatsoever - the room even had a can of bug spray but we didn't bother to use it.) The only thing that bugged me (lol) was that there was a safe in the room but you had to pay $4.40 per day to use it. Pretty crappy really considering that every other place I've stayed in gave it to me for free - again, we didn't bother with that either - the rooms are super secure and after all - it's Palm Cove!! Everyone who is there can afford to be there - they don't need to rob you. At the pool we left our wallet, keys etc. on the table for hours - no problem! (mind you, that was an accident. I don't recommend such complacency anywhere, but was super glad our valuable stuff was all still there later on.) MY FINAL COMMENT IS THIS - the staff are probably about the best I have ever met in any hotel anywhere - period (other than the Charming 2 Hotel in Vietnam - but that's another review :-)) Seriously, Olivia was magnificent, both on the phone when I booked and in person when we arrived. Rachel was a dream when it came to booking tours and just for local knowledge in general. They made us feel like we were their only patrons and the check in - check out procedures were the quickest and most painless I've ever experienced. THE BOTTOM LINE IS - STAY HERE !!! IT'S A TOP HOTEL AND YOU WON'T REGRET IT. The pools are clean, large and safe (cleaned each morning from what we saw.) The gardens are beautiful, service brilliant, quality top notch. One thing though, you don't get daily refresh of your toiletries, etc. It's an apartment and you need to look after yourself in that respect. But that's what makes the hotel so great, because you save a fortune avoiding the $100 per meal that you would otherwise spend for 4 people if you couldn't cook for yourselves. OK, enough said - this is the longest review I've ever written. Great hotel - thanks to all the staff for helping to make our holiday so wonderful. We'll be back!!!

Room Tip: Ocean view room was beautiful and no real noise as its set back far enough from the street. They ar...

We stayed here with a large group of friends over multiple rooms/apartments. Rooms were good size and clean. Good size balcony and kitchen. The pool was big enough for the kids to play, as well as the big kids [age 30]. Palm Cover is small enough to walk everywhere. There was no lift in our block, so be ready to walk up the stairs. I would recommend the Mantra.

Room Tip: Get a room with ocean views!

It was the second time we stayed at Mantra Amphora, and strangely we got the exact same room we had last time: a one-bedroom apartment with resort views and a kitchen. I'd love to know the booking system so I can work out how we got the same room. Maybe they don't have many one-bedroom apartments?
We wanted the one-bedroom apartment as it comes with a kitchen, as while you are in the mecca of restaurants, it can get costly to eat out every meal.
The room itself is comfortable, great air conditioning—in the bedroom and the lounge room, and comes with many creature comforts and practical things. Our room had a washing machine and dryer (not that you would ever use one in that climate), a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer, a spa bath, big screen television, and a good sized balcony with outdoor table and chairs.
The resort boasts a fantastic pool that the entire complex surrounds. It has deep and shallow sections with a spa and kiddies pool. It tends to have people in it during all hours, and many choose to sunbathe in the banana lounges. The large palm trees surrounding the pool give it a very tropical feel, and it certainly is a nice and relaxing atmosphere, providing you aren't there when the hoardes of screaming kids are.
The two biggest downfalls of our room are the same this time, as they were last time. Firstly, while the description of the room states it contains a 'king-sized' bed, it really is two single beds pushed together. Fairly uncomfortable for couples who are used to sleeping in one bed. Secondly, when we decided to get cooking, we had to wash all the dishes by hand as they were all dirty. The cutlery had smears of food on them, the plates were dirty and so on, so we went ahead and cleaned everything ourselves. It meant dinner took a bit longer.
Aside from that, our stay was quite pleasant. The location is absolutely perfect, you are on the quiet end of the main road and right behind easily the best restaurant in the entire town 'Vivo' Restaurant. Don't forget to go to Chill Cafe at the end of the street for light meals and great juices, it's a fantastic location with terrific service.
The staff at Mantra are very friendly and are happy to help with your requests. The parking is super easy and you can park either under cover or around the office area.
A great hotel to stay at, with a great location, recommended as a good stay in Palm Cove.

We stayed at the Amphora for 8 nights in a 1 bedroom apartment over the New Year period. Check in was easy and staff were very helpful (especially Pamela who went out of her way of us on several occasions). After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we ask for (and received) a top floor apartment. We opted for the more expensive option of a ocean view - which was lovely for the ocean breezes in the afternoon and evening - see note below. When we arrived to the room it was immaculately presented, table lights on, air con set at a comfortable temperature and the ceiling fans going too. We instantly felt relaxed!

I really like to cook while on holiday and I found the kitchen well appointed (brought extra tea towels, a chopping board and a knife) there was even had a blender in our apartment (not too sure if that was standard or not) which was great for making breakfast smoothies.

The bathroom was of a good size (bath as well as roomy shower) - all lovely and clean. The bed was massive so not much room for suitcases to be stowed - we had to get creative and store our suitcases in the space above the wardrobe.

You will need to buy additional dishwasher tablets as you only get 2 sachets per clean (as we had meals at the apartment at least twice a day and we ran the dishwasher once a day). Dishwashing liquid was also provided. You will also need to buy additional toilet paper - even after the room clean (half way through the stay) we did not get additional paper (soap and towels - yes). This did not bother us as we were popping to the supermarket in Clifton Beach every couple of days so not a big deal.

All-in-all the apartment was very comfortable for the two of us and for the price we didn't mind picking up a few necessities.

The pool area was lovely - while the pool is big - you can't really do laps in it due to the organic shape and the different levels (I was a little disappointed as I am training for a triathlon and couldn't do lengths, I just swam in the sea instead). Lots of seating options - lounges as well as tables and chairs. Lots of grass too so you can sit under the palm trees. The pool is excellent for kids to play in - lots of different levels (and cleverly marked marked by the different colours on the pool floor). It could get a little noisy at times but a good atmosphere all the same.

Note: while the ocean rooms do face the ocean you don't really see much of it as the palm trees are about 3 floors tall. I think the second floor would be able to see more blue (but then you'd be looking through the tree trunks). This bothered me only slightly - not too sure that we would pay the extra next time for an ocean view but also we noted that the internal facing rooms (overlooking the pool area) could at times be a little noisy and the pool area is open from 6am to 10pm. If you are holidaying with a family this would be quite good but if you are after a bit of peace and quiet you might like to opt for a room that does not face the pool. An additional bonus is that we did not consider to having a higher floor is that as you are higher up you can leave the slider door to the balcony open with out worrying about security. If you are on the ground floor anyone can have access your room - we slept with the ceiling fan on in the bedroom, the balcony door open and listened to the sea and the wind in the palm trees - now that's a holiday!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom sea view apartment from the 19th to the 22nd December, the check in was smooth and the reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and charming, the view was stunning overlooking the ocean, rooms were very well equipped. The swimming pool was magnificent and not too busy while we were there. Easy access to restaurants, it was a joy to walk along the promenade. Totally enjoyed our stay here and would definately go back, thanks to all the staff for making it a wonderful trip to Cairns.

We spent four nights at the Mantra Amphora from December 21st. Couldn't fault it. Hotel is directly across the road from one of my favourite beaches at Palm Cove.
Very fast and easy check in. We had a two bedroom apartment on the ground floor that looked out on to the pool which was fantastic. Very well appointed rooms with full kitchen which is great when you have kids and the restaurants become a little too hard.
We had a problem with our washing machine which the girls in reception did their best to rectify asap - all the staff were very friendly and remembered the guests names. A very nice touch and the hotel management should be very happy with the way the hotel is run.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are great for families with small children.

This is a nice resort, rooms are quite large and modern. The location is awesome, everything you could want is at your doorstep. The staff at reception are very helpful and a pleasure to speak with, in particular we would like to thank Pamela for her help and advise. The grounds of this resort is very well maintained with lush tropical gardens. Vivo restaurant makes a great coffee (Genovese) eating here is expensive and servings/ingredients very dismal.
