Mango Lagoon Resort & Wellness Spa

This was our second stay at Mango Lagoon, the first being three years previous.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment which had everything we needed for a comfortable one week stay. The room was serviced once during our stay which was expected. (If you're planning on staying for a time then bring some of your own washing powder and dish-washing powder)

The condition and general cleanliness of the room was pretty good, though it did seem to be a little tired and in need of a deep clean.

One of the things that has changed since our last visit was that they no longer provide remotes for the air-conditioning so it's simply an off, or on (at their pre-determined setting).

The overall feeling I got from the place this time was that, while still a decent place to stay with awesome pool facilities, it has had a change of management and is somewhat on the decline.

I would still recommend the place, though it would be more of a recommendation as a good family place, rather than the more luxurious slant I felt three years previous.

'Wellness Resort & Spa'... more like a Big 4 family holiday park! Our recent stay at the Mango Lagoon resort was far from the tranquil getaway we were looking forward to. We stayed in one of the studio rooms, with the understanding that these rooms are just basic, standard level accomodation. The room was small and quite dated - most of the furniture was damaged. The king bed was two single beds pushed together - no mattress topper or zip to join these up.There were stains on the sheets, the bathroom fan did not work and the television was missing a cable. The pools were the highlight of this resort, but unfortunately the screaming children jumping into the water really did spoil the experience. The spa rooms are right next to these pools and as a result of the poolside noise we did not decided against these services. This resort would suit families - but if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay I would look for somewhere else.

This is a nice relaxing hotel to stay in. Our room was a little small and had no a/c (necessary in Cairns weather!) but overall our stay was enjoyable. The reception staff were very helpful and knowledgable and the hotel is well located for many of the main attractions.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a/c!

This is more of a quiet vacationland rental, it has wonderfully pools 4 with different depths, beautiful landscape gardens, extremely large apartments with kitchen, dining, bedrooms, airconditioned etc. There is a BBQ area near one of the pools.Even though it is away from the main strip of shops and resturants,it makes it more appealing. It is less than a ten minute walk if you cut through the back of the resort. You will need a car to go to the supermarket in Clifton beach. There is no resturant on site.I think the spa was closed ,opened by appointment only ,as they are heading in to their wet season.

Stayed at the Mango lagoon for 4 nights ( and there are Mango Trees!). Travelled with my Wife over for the Eclipse and stayed in a one bedroom apartment. The apartment was on the first floor and was very well appointed. A fully fitted kitchen with full size fridge freezer was impressive. The open living area was massive which included a dining area, sofas and flat screen TV. Air-con and fans was a welcome sight. The double bedroom was spacious and lead on to a laundry room with washer and dryer; shower over the bath. The accommodation was clean and totally self contained. The stairs overlooked the well kept gardens. The pools, of which there were four, separated the apartment blocks and the palms and other plants softened the boundaries so it always felt a secluded and welcoming space. We spent one whole day by the pool relaxing and only saw two other guests, most people seemed to use the apartments as a base and went out and about during the day. The apartments are only a 10 minute walk to the beach at Palm Cove; leaving the hotel from a gate that took us onto a residential road. The properties are very nice bungalows and a pleasant walk slightly downhill to the beach. Many bars and restaurants, amongst beach front hotels. The appearance is very low-rise and sympathetic to the palm tree lined beach with miles of sandy beach and rolling surf. The restaurants provided quite a variety we did try a few and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and service. All in all a very friendly and relaxing place. If you want a relaxing stay in paradise palm Cove wont disappoint.

Room Tip: A hire car is essential if you want to venture out.

Stayed with my husband and we absolutely loved this place.

We bought a deal from hoopon.com.au and we were amazed at what we got for the price we paid.

We cant speak highly enough of this resort. The rooms were large, the pools were great and the people were very friendly.

Initial impressions form this resort were great, ie lovely reception area space and overall lanscaping (pools, plantings, etc). But - arriving at 4pm to check in to find that the reception was closed as this was deemed 'after hours' (room key wqas acquired by ringing a phone number and being given a safe number to pull enevelop with key out), coupled with being housed in an alleged 'hotel style' room that was tiny, had no hotel information pack, had cheap beds, a noisy dribbling toilet, no tea bags, no teaspoons - and zero room service for the entire 3 nights of the stay(ie no fresh towels, no coffee/milk pottle topups, no bed making) - made living in this room a depressing and disappointing experience. I felt ashamed to have brought my elderly mother to this resort for almost half of our one week Northern Queensland holiday from NZ. Have stayed in better rooms in backpacker/youth hostels. Saw a total of 3 staff (one time each) over the entire 4 days stay - and although they were all very nice (especially the guy on morning reception, who was very helpful), my overall impression was that the owner/management policy was for maximum profit for minimum service. Also, while I paid AU$269 for 3 nights via a Living Social coupon, I noticed standby rates out of the front of the resort were for $99 per night. Wow - I saved $9 per night to stay in a crap room! Would advise holidaymakers travelling to the delightful Palm Cove to look at the hotels along the esplanade. 'Hotel-type room' guests certainly appear to be second degree citizens at this hotel. Book the apartments there - or go somewhere else.
