We booked a two bedroom apartment with a private plunge pool. We actually only needed a one bedroom, but none were available and were keen for the private plunge pool, so just took the extra room.
Check in was easy and provided us early check in around midday with cold face towels provided while checking in. Proximity of our room (109) to the central lagoon was great. Apartment was spacious and felt quite new. Room service was prompt and some of the best food I have had from room service - I would even go to say the best steak I have ever had! Well done! Restaurant dining was also a highlight. Service from staff throughout the stay was both friendly and professional. Day bed/settee was super comfy for relaxing, laying, sleeping, reading - you name it. The orientation of the apartment faced the beach (but with scrub between) so no view but relaxing beach sounds were a feature and the apartment was very quiet. Loved the main bathroom with the spa bath and his and hers basins, separate massive walk in shower and loo, screened behind frosted glass. Utilised the 2nd bathroom throughout our stay, even though we thought we mightn't need it, it was handy. Short walk to the beach was also good. Easy enough to walk down the main street of Palm Cove to grab some essentials, or eat out.
Apartment furniture and fittings certainly appeared dated - curtains discoloured and stained, no chopping board (kind of important in self contained apartment?) and quite possibly the most uncomfortable main couch I have ever sat on. The showers were horrid, sharp piercing streaks of water that felt like needles on the skin. We did feel away from the action a little, given the apartment faces away from the lagoon and that sitting outside provided no real view. The private plunge pool was anything but private - it could be seen from the 3 levels of apartments both directly above and above to the right, along with the identical apartment to the right. The pool wasn't heated, so in the cooler winter months, is quite fresh and was littered with leaves from the gum tree which the deck was built around. The shade sail while I am sure super practical in summer, shielded most of the sun, so quite hard to find a spot to lay in. Again because of the orientation the outside space only had sun in the morning. No wifi at all in the rooms, only LAN (really, this is 2014) so you had to venture to reception or other areas within the resort for wifi.
Overall, loved the professional but relaxed feel of the resort and the quality of the food (restaurant and in room dining was a stand out) but feel it was under par on quality & comfort of furnishings and the plunge pool and outdoor space was really poorly designed. Would probably prefer a swim up apartment with a view over the lagoon, or the penthouse with the private jacuzzi, if we returned.
