The Melaleuca is one of the best in Palm Cove, and for the price it is, it is great. The staff are the most friendly i have ever come across and were just great. The rooms were big and comfortable with a full kitchen. The area of the hotel is very good, only a few steps to the beach.

If you're seeking a personable, cozy, comfortable, clean, well-located home-away-from-home at an affordable price, Melaleuca is a wonderful choice! I had a top floor room with an ocean view and the sound of nature just out my bedroom window. I love a 5-star hotel as much as anyone, yet as a solo traveler on a budget, I appreciated having my own kitchen and laundry facilities. Because Melaleuca is small, almost all of the rooms open to the oceanside which many of the targer, flashier resorts in Palm Cove cannot offer. The relaxed ambiance draws a very friendly clientele and though my stay was only a few days, guests greeted one another like old friends.

The Coop family has just taken over the management this year and from the moment of booking by e-mail to my check-out, they could not have been more hospitable or professional.

As a dining tip, I found the restaurants in the small shopping center (about a block up the beach) to offer good food, good service and good people watching for more reasonable prices than those located in the resorts.

There are many boutique and high-end resorts at Palm Cove. Melaleuca Resort isn't one of these, but it's great value for money. Hosts Robin and Sonya are friendly and helpful.

Suites are "tropical 80s" styling, but clean and functional. Bed was comfortable. Each unit has washer-dryer and kitchen.

Great pool and palm-studded front yard that blocks traffic from the main street - you don't even know a street is there most of the time. Has a poolside grilling area.

The only things are lacking are beach towels (you need to bring your own, or buy cheap ones at the local supermarket), and internet access. I'm not sure if you can take the beach chairs (recliners) to the beach across the road - it would be nice to be able to sit on the beach on a recliner (some other resorts provide this facility).

We would definitely stay here again.

Some advice - buy groceries at the Coles supermarket in Clifton Beach rather than at Palm Cove. The fish-and-chip shop at Clifton Beach (next to gas station) is the best value for fish-and-chips - better than anything in Palm Cove.

Our first child free "real" holiday for 6 years, sadly cut short by illness of one of our children. That notwithstanding, a great location, not 'quiet', but well located, close to restaurants, but you need a car for anything else. The managers were very helpful when
we needed to leave really quickly to head home. Clean, comfortable, friendly. Recommended.

If you are looking for an upscale beach resort, the Melaleuca is not for you. However, if you are looking for a clean, well-located, well priced, well run, smaller place to stay with a more personal touch, then it’s the best place you’ll find in Palm Cove. My wife and I spent 3 days there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The unit we stayed in was recently redone and included a full kitchen, washer & dryer, bedroom, living room and bath. All immaculate! The swimming pool is surrounded by gardens and more like swimming in your own private preserve. The Melaleuca is located toward one end of Palm Cove but within easy walking of shopping, restaurants, the beach, etc. The bus to Cairns, Port Douglas, etc. stops just a couple of blocks away in from of Pete’s grocery.

The best part of the Melaleuca is Sonya, one of the owners/managers. She is a wealth of knowledge about the area and always willing to help direct you to the best sights. She helped us book all our excursions including recommending Calypso, a family owned and operated dive company, for a spectacular day snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. Others would have probably just booked us with one of the larger commercial dive companies but Sonya had personal experience with Calypso and, because it’s a smaller family operation, I feel we got more special and individual attention. Again, it’s more of the personal touch.

The Melaleuca is the perfect place for those who want to be in a smaller, friendly atmosphere. It’s a place where you can be as much on your own and self sufficient as you like.

I stayed 5 nights at Melaleuca Resort, about 20kms north of Cairns, at Palm Cove. It was chosen as a place to de-stress after completing a particularly difficult work assignment. It turned out to be an excellent choice for a self contained, self catering holiday.

There are lots of large, glamorous and expensive resorts at Palm Cove. Melaleuca is small - only 24 x I bedroom units. It is owner occupied and the personal attention of the managers makes you feel at home. The units are attractive and well appointed, with good kitchen, laundry and bathroom facilities. So you can be quite self sufficient. The decor is pleasant but bland. It is entirely appropriate to the low key, modest price range of the accommodations.

The smallish swimming pool sits in a beautifully landscaped, secluded tropical garden. It has a friendly atmosphere and most holiday-makers ended up chatting happily in and around the pool.

The location on Williams Esplanade with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and mini marts close by was very convenient. Many of the units have views to the beach across the road.

Melaleuca Resort is an excellent option for people looking for comfortable, moderately priced, self contained apartment living. It is not lavish, but then again it is not over the top price-wise.

We enjoyed our stay in melaleuca. The biggest plus is Sonya the owner. Nothing is too much trouble, she helped us to book local excursions, taxi from the airport, everything. I booked direct over the internet, and she was always prompt in replying to my e-mails.

The accomodation was clean, nicely decorated and well equipped. I wouldn't call it plush, but it is perfectly adequate for a beach holiday. I would have been nice to have a 2 bedrm appt, but they only have 1 bedrm and a sofa bed, which was fine but a bit of a faff in the evenings and morning to get it all out for the kids.

there are plenty of places to eat just a short stroll along the road, from take away to good restaurants.

the pool is small, and our kids preferred swimming in the sea, despite the big signs saying, "NO SWIMMING, CROCODILES"

The beach is beautiful, very quiet in August. You can fish from the end of the pier, the local fisherman puts his catch on a post and a big osprey comes and gets it. A sight to see!

I think if we went back to palm cove we might try somewhere more up market, but couldn't really complain about melaleuca.
