We loved staying at Ellenbrae!

This place is your typical back to basics station. We arrived and were greeted by Jason and Karen who were more than hospitable. They served up some of the best scones with jam and cream Ive had in a long time! and for lunch we had a great Sandwich or as we say in Australia Sanga.

Yes, the camp grounds are a bit dusty, but theirs plenty of shade and the facilities are great, Karen heated up the donkey with firewood so we could have a hot shower, or bath if we wanted to.

The billabong was a great place to visit with nice cool water and nothing but us and the wild life.

If you're looking for back to basics camping and to get away from the crowds and the commercialized facilities in the Kimberley then this is a place you need to stay. Nothing better than setting up the swag and heading back to the home stead for some scones and then relaxing on the beautiful grass looking at the beautiful garden and listening to the birds.

And there are plenty of birds!!!

Jason can also repair your tyres or have a look at your car, he is honest and willing to give information. Remember Jason has been living here so if he gives you advice then take it!

I will definitely be back here, mainly because Karen and Jason are such great hosts and also its picturesque and quiet.

We had plans to stay there overnight because we had heard that the scones were the best! When we got there we had one of the famous scones and they were delicious! The campgrounds were a bit dusty and the facilities weren't that great but the scones mad up for that! The billabong was great to wash all the dust ofcand cool down in the heat of the day!

We were driving along the Gibb River Road and saw a sign saying that Scones, Jam and Cream were available at Ellenbrae station. Well, that was enough to get us to turn off the road and drive about 9 kms of somewhat rough road to check it out. We were not disappointed and received wonderful hospitality while enjoying the quirky surroundings and excellent food as well as a pot of hot tea. This is well worth the detour and offers some interesting photography of the homestead and artefacts displayed in and around the premises. A must do on this part of the Gibb.

After the shake, rattle and roll coming out of Drysdale Station, Ellenbrae Station is a lovely green oasis at which to shake off the dust. Whilst we only stopped for morning tea, the scones and coffee were lovely and the surroundings were great. Hospitality was first rate.
Next time we will stop here instead of Drysdale Station.

We stopped at ellenbrae for one nights camp. First we had the scones at the station which my son declared were the best scones he has ever had.
We the set up camp at ringers campground. It is dry and dusty but the swimming hole is lovely and we wished we had a canoe to explore further.
The highlight of the campground was the quirky bathroom facilities. The donkey hot water heater worked wonderfully and there was plenty of hot water for everyone's showers (which is rare for the gibb river rd).
