Stayed in the bungalow rooms for 5 nights, the rooms were beautiful. The back balcony overlooked a creek, it was lovely sitting at the back in the evening hearing the water bubbling away. Such a special place to stay, Kimberley locals should feel so lucky they have relatively easy access to El Q.
El Q was our last destination after doing the Gibb River for 12 days so this was definitely a lovely place to relax. Food from the restaurant was delicious, so fresh & tasty. Beer from the bar was always cold. Staff are very friendly especially the 2 ladies from restaurant. Had live music on Sunday might by local musician Chris Matthews. ElQ staff were having a great time having dancing offs hahaha was a brilliant night (they were rostered off). We did the 30 minute helicopter right at $300 p/person which was amazing, the pilot (Glenn) was so friendly & informative. You could really tell he loved his job which showed during the flight. We took our 4WD to the many look outs so that was great to get out on our own.
Overall, its a beautiful place to stay, it is on the pricey side so it may not be for everyone but if you can give it a go once you won't be dissapointed.

Room Tip: No phone reception so buy phone cards from the bar Fruitbat bungalow overlooks the creek

We love visiting ELQ, usually several times a year. We stayed in a private bush camp and they are awesome! Was a bit hot at night so on the 3rd one we switched to a room for the aircon, was lovely after 2 nights of sweat!! It was a bit late for camping mid October but was fun.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Had a couple of dinners and a lunch at the steakhouse, nice.
The only complaint is the pies and sausage rolls at the station store, they look nice but are terrible. Even the kids hated the sausage rolls with sauce and they will normally eat anything with tomato sauce!! I tried them and not very good. All very bland unfortunately. Once I tasted it I remembered that I had one earlier in the year and said I would never have another, unfortunately I forgot!!!!! Oh well.
Thanks for another great stay!! Moonshine was brilliant!!!

Dear Tim,

Thank you for your ongoing support of both The Station and Emma Gorge. We really appreciate you sharing your views on the great experiences to be had in the East Kimberley. Having stayed in several styles of El Questro’s accommodation, you are an asset to our marketing team!!! Whilst it may be a little bit warmer in October, you certainly would have benefitted from having less people to share the park and attractions with. I take on board your comments about the sausage rolls, we will certainly investigate our supplier options.

We look forward to next season and another year of welcoming the people of Wyndham.

Warm regards,
Lori Litwack

After our first visit to ElQ several years ago, we knew we had to return. Our second visit did not disappoint. There is so much to do on this property and the natural beauty is awesome. It is a photographer's paradise. Can't speak highly enough about the raw, unspoilt beauty of this place. We had our own 4WD, so could travel around the property as we pleased, but guided tours are also on offer for those who don't have a 4WD or don't wish to drive themselves. We stayed in the air-conditioned bungalows, which were very clean and comfortable, and included a back deck overlooking a tributary of the river. There are several standards of accommodation, including private campsites, so all tastes are catered for. It is obvious that the staff care for the land and the wildlife. Well worth a visit.

Dear Kimberley77,
Thank you so much for posting such a favourable review of The Station Bungalows, you have captured the essence of the property in a few words. It is wonderful to see that this was a return visit to El Questro. It is certainly the type of place that needs more than 1 visit given how much there is to do here. I guess that is why some of the staff have been her for more than 10 years!!!
We hope to see you again for another holiday.
Warm regards,
Lori Litwack

Some of the reviews of El Questro Station don’t take account of its location. This is a REMOTE AREA and one has to accept the limitations. We hope these comments about the bungalows will be useful - particularly for visitors renting a vehicle.
1. The bungalows are superbly located on the Pentecost River. They’re spacious and have aircon. Facilities include a fridge, kettle and iron, shower and toilet.
2. There are no cooking facilities in the bungalows or anywhere else at El Questro station. So be prepared. We brought along a toaster ($22 at Kununurra).
3. The restaurant is great if you want to eat all your meals at a restaurant. The café has snacks of modest quality.
4. The Kimberley is HOT in the daytime in winter. (Summer is the wet season and you probably won’t be at El Questro then.) Do your activities early in the morning or after 3.30 pm.
5. If you are self-driving and something goes wrong with the vehicle, El Questro is 1.25 hours from the nearest centre (Kununurra) and there’s no mobile (= cell phone) coverage.
6. You must be prepared to drive through two river crossings to get there. Smaller 4wds (SUVs) will cope under normal conditions during the dry season.
The staff at El Questro are, generally, excellent - but not always knowledgeable about walks.
And a note of caution. We reserved a bungalow but an error occurred in our reservation. We arrived expecting refrigeration, a roof and a bathroom. We had to sleep the first night in a tent – for which we were not prepared (no torches, no refrigerated storage, etc). Leanne and her team did everything possible to mitigate and we greatly appreciated their efforts. But what if we’d been elderly or incapacitated?
So our advice is to double-check your booking or have a contingency plan to survive tent accommodation.

El Questro was the first station we stayed at travelling from Kununura, leading us onto The Gibb River Road. The road was bitumen up to the turn off to El Questro, a gravel, dusty dirt road. What was obvious, even then was the speed at which motorists were travelling....ridiculous speeds considering the road conditions! THE CREEK....better than any traffic lights to slow everyone down ,
The accommodation we chose was at the main campsite, Black Cockatoo, primarily because it was closer to all the amenities/abolution block than the private campsites. We were greeted very pleasantly, given a brief intro of the plan of the station.
Fortunately for us it was the end of the school holidays, but it was still very busy, and difficult to find a suitable area for our camper trailer.
The store was well stocked with insect.mozzie /repellent, sun screen., snack food etc.. The coffee shop had an assortment of cakes/biscuits.the staff were all very pleasant.I can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't dine there.
The abolution block was a little sad it really needs refurbishing, and definitely more toilets and showers. The ensuites definitely seem to be favoured the most, but there was always a queue of people, admittedly this was a very busy time.
There are plenty of activities for everyone, of all ages,(great information on the official website), horse riding, guided tours, Junior Rangers, and good information on the time , and level of hardship of the gorge walks. Emma Gorge, if nowhere else is a must to see at El Questro...(AFTER THE LONG TREK, THE MOST DIVINE SWIM EVER!!!).it is absolutely stunning...nature's beauty at it's best

The best news for some traveller's...gas and fuel is sold at the station, and a mechanic is on site

Overall we enjoyed our visit to El Questro, but would definitely advise anyone to visit anytime other than school holidays, and if there are tour buses there, just try and find out their itinerary,....be flexible.

On the down side....please, please....move the individual campfire sites..In the morning there
was a horrible stench of smoke lingering in the air, which hangs around all day ..

Dear Ruby,
Thank you for the thorough review of El Quetsro Wilderness Park. You have made some great recommendations and observations about camping at the park. We would agree that people without children would enjoy the experience even more if they can avoid the school holiday period. It is a great time for families, with a fantastic buzz and range of activities, but other travelers would benefit from visiting when not quite as busy.
We are working on our strategic plan over the coming season and the ablution block is a high priority as is adding on additional facilities. We will look forward to improving this essential service for our campers. Part of that plan too, is a redesign of the campground. Hopefully this will take care of the fire pits and the problem with smoke. I do apologise if this impacted your experience, we are looking to our campground team to manage it better until these changes are made.
We hope to see you again when the facilities have had their revamp.
Warm regards,
Lori Litwack

Staying at El Questro is a great finish to the Gibb River road trek. The station has both camping and bungalow options. Ask for a bungalow by the river. The staff are well trained and on the whole very friendly, except for the peanuts who delight in telling you not to exceed the speed limit (10kms) or parking in the wrong spot, rather than helping you find your way around.

The Steakhouse restaurant is definitely worth dining at. The check in staff had made a booking for us in advance which was a nice surprise.

The sightseeing options are plentiful and well managed. The staff will guide you on conditions and traveling times; take heed as it gets dark quickly. The walks and gorges are spectacular.

Room Tip: Ask for a bungalow by the river, they are quiet and away from the camping area.

Dear Svensky

Thank you for taking time to post your review on Trip Advisor. It is really nice to see that your time at El Quetsro Station was a great experience and enjoyable time for you. We do pride ourselves on the quality of the food at our restaurant and take note of your kudos for the Staekhouse team..

Our team does go out of their way to put on a warm welcome and I really do apologise if the ranger was too curt in giving parking directions. It is not our style to treat our valued guests this way and his diligence has come across in a poor manner.

We hope that others find your review helpful when planning their Gibb River Road trip, we appreciate you passing on this good information.

Warm regards,
Lori Litwack
