“Terrific hosts and quiet location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

This lovely park is set right on Lake Kununurra and the managers, Kathryn and Mark, are terrific and helpful hosts, along with their staff. We were upgraded to deluxe cabins near the water on their special rate so it was great value. It’s got a decent size bathroom and very good air conditioning (really needed in March). The pool was a nice place to unwind under the shade, even though the water temp was a bit warm.

Highly recommend the Monday night barra and beef bbq and Saturday night sausage sizzle with money raised for charity. And don’t miss on seeing the resident freshwater crocs. Great place for birdlife (saw tawny frogmouths on our first night) but as the park is next to the lake be prepared for insects, especially in the warmer months, and decent sized geckos (part of life in the north).

My wife and I and two daughters called in to stay for one night only.
We were on our way across the top to Queensland trying to escape the heat and humidity that seemed to be following us over the last couple of weeks since leaving Karratha.
The friendly receptionist reminded us that Kununurra was a lovely place with much to see and that we could get an even better deal if we wanted to lengthen our stay.
That night we met most of the staff and a few other guests and caravaners at the BBQ that the park staff organise twice a week.
The food was yummy and very reasonably priced with the proceeds going to charity.
All the staff were sooo friendly and happy to chat about sights to see, tours to consider and places to fish, we decided to stay for maybe a week.
We'll we are still here 5 weeks later and are finding it very hard to leave. There is plenty to see in and around Kununurra and we are having a fantastic time.
Kununurra is indeed a magic location and we are so grate full to the staff at the park for not only their genuine friendship but also for the fantastic facilities that are clean and tidy and so we'll managed.
We'll done Discovery lake Kununurra, we will certainly be back on our next trip around.
Cheers
Paul and Simone Wilson

We travel from Darwin to Perth (on business) a few times per year, have stayed at this great Holiday Park for many times and are always happy to be back. This time, we arrived one night earlier due to the immense heat at the Bungle Bungles and were very lucky to find our usual group camp sites still available. Two couples occupied one of the lovely cabins and enjoyed the air-conditioning. Although the lovely breeze from the lake gave us campers a good night sleep too and the additional day we spent at the Discovery Holiday Park was a great re-leave from our travel. Thank you for your great service, great location and very friendly environment.

What a great place to stay. We loved it. Mark and Kathryn are great hosts and the reception was very welcoming. We had a very shady site under trees right opposite the lake and our tinny was able to be tied up there for action any time.

It was wonderful not having "don't" and "do" signs everywhere - 'don't do this and don't do that'. Some parks treat travelers as children with instructions everywhere and often we feel like we are in a concentration camp! What a lovely change to be treated like adults.

Thanks Mark and Kathryn, we have told many about your park and will visit again when we come through that way.

Totally recommend this park.

We stayed at the Discovery Holiday Park while visiting Kununurra on our around Australia trip. The cabin we stayed in was right on the river and it was fantastic. It was very comfortable and well equipped. The staff were very helpful and informative with places to visit whilst we were staying there. Thanks

We had a campervan and needed a powered site to charge our camera, laptop etc. Although our welcome was friendly we were squeezed into a small block between two caravans who both had their noisy airconditioning running all night. One had his extract fan only about 2m away blowing hot air onto our van because the site was so tight for us. We were charged their normal, not cheap rate, which did seem unfair in the circumstances.

Our family of 5 enjoyed staying in an air-conditioned cabin with the lake at our doorstep. The cabin was comfortable and clean. The cabin had a BBQ on the verandah, and we were able to buy top quality seafood from the reception and cook it on our Barbie. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The convenience of having a meal cooked for us once or twice a week as an option was great. Especially for the usual cook in our family. The managers and their staff cook for you a beautiful meal, at "Croc Rock". $10 for Beef or Barramundi, salads and a bread roll and the money raised goes to charity - "St Johns Ambulance". How good is that! We found the park to be lovely and shady and the pool spotless. As we were staying at the beginning of the wet season / build up it was a relief to come back after a day of touring to the coolness of the place. The managers are able to suggest things to do and see, and some places only the locals know about. We had our own boat so we were afforded the freedom to go and explore the lake. The park also hire boats and canoes, so you can really get out and enjoy the beauty of it all. All in all a fantastic holiday for our family.

Room Tip: Cabin on lake near road, was fine. Not noisy, and had lots of shade. Very private.
