Owner description: LAKE ARGYLE CRUISES is the original tour company on Lake Argyle. We offer a range of scenic cruises catering for individual travellers as well as tour groups. Our fleet of purpose built vessels offer comfortable seating and unobstructed views that leave many customers exclaiming words such as “amazing”, “breathtaking”, and “unbelievable”. Lake Argyle is Australia’s largest expanse of fresh water. It boasts over 26 species of native fish and supports a commercial fishery as well as the newly established Aquaculture industry. Latest research estimates up to 25,000 Johnstone River Fresh Water crocodiles inhabit Lake Argyle, Rock Wallabies thrive in rocky crevices close to the water’s edge, Eros (Wallaroos) on the islands have adapted to feed on the lakes aquatic plants. We specialise in observing wildlife, but due to the nature of wild animals it cannot be guaranteed you will see all that is described in this brochure. At Lake Argyle village above the Main Dam you will find motel style cabins, shop, bar, restaurant and a caravan park. Drop in and try the local catch, “Silver Cobbler” delivered fresh daily. Nearby is the Historical Durack Family Homestead Museum. The inland sea was created in 1971, by damming the mighty Ord River, forming a storage reservoir to supply one of the country’s largest and most ambitious irrigation schemes. What was once “Argyle Downs”, a million acre cattle station, is now an immense body of water amid a largely untamed and rugged wilderness in the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Aptly named “Lake Argyle”, this majestic waterway can at times encompass and area of more than 2000 km2, a volume of water equivalent to 54 Sydney harbours. With its ever changing moods and landscapes it has developed into a unique eco-system, home to an amazing array of wildlife. There is no better was to capture all of this outstanding beauty than to take a cruise with Lake Argyle Cruises. We offer a selection of tours catering for the individual traveller as well as large tour groups. Specialised charters such as bird watching, bush walking and exploration can be arranged with prior notice.

Thanks to Greg for an extremely informative and entertaining cruise of this spectacular part of the East Kimberley. The sunset swim was the cherry on the top of an awesome afternoon.

“Lake Argyle Sunset Cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

Wife and I really enjoyed our sunset cruise a few days ago, Greg was very informative and knew his stuff. The swim at sunset was very relaxing, especially with a beer in hand. Must go back to lake Argyle again sometime. certainly a highlight of our trip so far.

“Lake Argyle's Sunset Cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

One of the highlights of my trip to the Kimberley. The cruise around part of this magnificent man made lake was a wonderful interlude during our outback adventure. Matt was extremely informative and provided an excellent commentary throughout. We were able to swim a couple of times in between watching the rock wallabies and pelicans and feeding the fish. The highlight was being served champagne and canapés whilst floating in the lake watching the sun go down. Unforgettable.

“One of life's great experiences”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

Lake Argyle is a huge fresh water lake in the north-eatern Kimberley region of Western Australia. Sunset cruises on the lake give the traveller the chance to see some of this enormous lake while enjoying the modern high-speed boat, complete with depth indicators and a great informative commentary from the experienced captain. The highlight for us was the sunset swim - the lake is very clear and the water can safely be drunk while swimming! However, why drink the lake water when the captain is happily handing glasses of wine and cans of beer to the people sunset swimming. Floating in the lake, sipping a drink and watching the water and sky change colours under the amazing Kimberley sunset really is one of life's great experiences.

“What a highlight on our tour!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

On our trip with 14 Swiss and German customers, we had an exciting time on this sunset cruise with Greg, our tour guide.
He is very knowledgeable about how Lake Argyle was created and the wildlife in and around it. The swim with the freshies ;-) was unbeatable. We will never forget being served bubbly & nibblies while actually still in the water. What a great experience!
