First of all, this hotel is in a spectacular location. The viaduct (which fans of cheesy 70s disaster flick 'The Cassandra Crossing' will recognise instantly) is simply amazing, and it's all very pretty.
Alas the hotel itself is pretty much stuck in the same era. It's a big ocean liner of a place, and it's pretty obvious the current owners don't have the resources to renovate. The result is a not unpleasant faded 60s glamour that is just about on the acceptable side.
Having said that, the staff are friendly and work hard. The restaurant is fine (though it's a little on the expensive side), the room was spotless, the bed comfortable and the breakfast was great value. This hotel is just a few km from the A75 and is ideal for an overnight stay, but I'm not sure I'd want to stay longer - and its days as a destination in its own right are far, far behind it.
They do need to invest in some fly killers, as a matter of urgency.
