“30 meters from the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

Found it randomly by my wife and I, this quiet corner of Las Terrenas we recommend to those who have a means to move freely because it is located on Playa Bonita, and therefore about 5-10 minute by car or scooter from the center.
Rooms are spacy and simple, very practical and pleasant.
Family run hotel with friendly staff and atmosphere.
We enjoyed our meals there.
We'll be back again!

Only drawback, the lack of air conditioning.

We stayed there at the end of November/start Dec 2012.

The hotel is relatively basic but for the price you can't argue. Our room was clean, colourful and a good size, the only downside was the noise from scooters going past outside and it being a bit dark.

Location wise, it was beautiful and nice to be away from the busy Las Terrenas (but near enough to easily drive for food/drinks in the evening). The beach is lovely, though the sand near the hotel is quite steep (apparently from hurricane Sandy) and you have to walk 15 mins around the far corner to find your patch of sand. Otherwise you have to lie in the hotel garden in between swims which isn't great to my mind at least.

Breakfast was disappointing - just bread and jam every day unless you pay for more. That being said, the hotel served great food at a fraction of the price of the other hotels on the beach.

So... the reason for the average rating: we booked in for 2 weeks but left a few days early because the weather wasn't great. The owner refused to give any refund (not even to recognise that we would not be eating breakfast etc). As I was paying the full asking price for the room (and for a long stay), I thought that was pretty unfair and it left a bitter taste at the end of our holiday.

The location of the hotel is just perfect. Right on the Playa Bonita beach. Rooms are clean. nice and big, but no frills. There aren't tv and A/C. However the weather was nice, so we didn't use even ceiling fan. The food and drinks in restaurant were inexpensive and tasty.
It can be noisy at night because of ATVs and motorcycles. Don't forget to take set of earplugs.
Overall, the hotel is real gem of Las Terrenas. I will definitely recommend the hotel to anybody who wants to go to Las Terrenas.

Room Tip: Try to get a room closer to the restaurant and further from a road.

We stayed at hotel Coyamar for 1 night during our travels through Samana peninsular. The hotel is very well located right on the beach at Playa Bonita. It represents great value for money especially as Playa Bonita is pretty expensive to stay in. We stayed in Las Terrenas itself also for 1 night but much preferred Playa Bonita as it is less touristic and much more beautiful. The beach is very peaceful and it also has nice surf.
The room was pretty basic but clean, colourful and well protected from mosquitos. The breakfast was simple but nice and on a great veranda overlooking the garden and giving a glimpse of the ocean in the morning.
The restaurant at the hotel gives great value for money with simple but tasty food. The meat was pretty nice....

We stayed with Peter and the folks at Hotel Coyamar on two separate occasions in a 2 week period. We loved it there, it was relaxing, peaceful and had a beautiful beach with terrific beach walking. Breakfast was included and their restaurant was really quite good...for lunch and dinner as well.

Room Tip: Rooms 2 and 4 on the second had a nice little deck a looked really inviting.

Coyamar is a very special place, and I am sooo glad we stayed there. Sure, there are alternatives, but where else will give you these important features: location (location, location), friendly people, wonderful host, a truly unique place to stay, an overall feeling of relaxation, and everything else you need right there. The owner, Peter, made this my very favorite place to stay of our trip, he was kind and gregarious and even though he ran a tight ship, exuded a laid-back relaxed feeling. He also helped us out a lot when we needed to communicate a cancellation to a tour (thanks also to your son).
We had a brilliant room on an upper floor, spacious enough for us to merengue a bit with the built-in radio. Nice cool tile floors, a large bathroom, and a good sized balcony were exact. A walk past the open air restaurant (with the neat palm thatched roof), and you are at Playa Bonita. Perfect. Take a walk down the palm lined path in either direction to find your spot, it’s all beautiful. It’s just right.
OK, back to the restaurant...we went in for the half board option, and it was well worth it! The breakfast was very good-fruits, juice, coffee, bread, spreads, it really is enough, but if not, you can order eggs various ways. I ordered the bacon and eggs once with the breakfast and was stuffed. Mind you there are no specifically set hours for breakfast, so don't worry! It doesn't go away at 10am! The other meal you can have at your time we had at dinners, and the menu had plenty of options for everyone to be happy, it was hard to choose! You get a starter, a main and a dessert. The yucca starter was good, and the fish with capers was great, finish with the fruit flambe and you've got dinner in style. This is a good deal, the food is very good, I recommend this option for sure.
Thank you so much Peter.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor, and go for the half board option-well worth it!

The best thing about Coyamar is the location. I thought about staying in the main part of Las Terrenas, and I'm so glad I didn't. The beach there is right next to the road, so it's dirty and load and full of deisel fumes. Playa Bonita, on the other hand is much more relaxing, and the road runs behind the hotels instead of infront of the beach, so it's a lot quieter. It's a LOT quieter, in fact, there's not much to do but each and go to the beach. But, back to the hotel... the rooms are very basic (no tv, ac or fancy beds), but the grounds are very pretty and it's right on the beach. I stayed three nights, breakfast was decent and the one time I ate dinner there, it was very tasty. I shopped around for a hotel, and it was the best value I found on playa bonita.
