We stayed at Casas del Mar for about 2 weeks! I have nothing but positive memories to cherish from our home away from home. Suzanne and Jim were the most gracious and helpful hosts! From restaurants and beaches to excursions and safety tips....they really exceeded our expectations.
Before we even left San Francisco, we had correspondance through email that helped us find our way from Puerto Plata with bus schedule info and directions to the Hotel.

Our room was spacious with high ceilings (ceiling fan), giant comfy bed, and sweet decor. The staff thoroughly cleaned the room every day and changed sheets/towels as needed. They are all very friendly and courteous as well.

My favorite part of the hotel was the little porch in front of all the rooms. They faced beautifully landscaped trees and flowers. It was so nice to have a long day at the beach, wash up, open a beer and sit on our porch with a book. Really felt like a home. Smiles from other visitors... chit chat with Suzanne and Jim... and a nuzzle from Rubio, their lovable dog. It was just what a relaxing vacation stay should be like.

At night, you sleep soundly as there is a night watch person making sure there's no funny business (even though it doesn't seem necessary because the hotel is in a safe area, it still gives you that extra comfortable feeling).

I honestly would recommend this place to anyone who wants a casual and friendly place to stay without the all-inclusive touristy stuff. Totally worth it.
Aside from being excellent hosts, Jim and Suzanne are genuinely good people with kind hearts. They are welcome to come and visit us in San Francisco anytime! They have an edge on how to run a solid hotel establishment from being travelers themselves, and it shows. Go visit them!

Room Tip: we had a room that was towards the back of the terrace- pretty quiet and away from road with motocycles and cars...it was perfect.

This is the second time I've been to this hotel and once again they have exceeded my expectations. I didn't need an all inclusive hotel to thoroughly enjoy all the restaurants in the area that were recommended by the hotel owners Jim and Suzanne. They made a point of checking in with each of their guests to see if there were any tours, taxi's or if they had any questions.

Their staff are kind and attentive and you can tell that they enjoy working there. For breakfast you are served juice, fresh fruit, baguette with butter and jam, and you have a choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

I stayed in the Cabinita which is tucked in the back out of the way. It's quiet and very cute. It's the perfect size for a single traveller. It has a bathroom with a shower stall, toilet, and sink. In the main room is a sink, fridge, some dishes and a safe. There is a bookshelf in the room with some novels in it (mostly french, but you can leave your old ones if you want to). There is a wardrobe with hangers and shelves. The bed is a queen size and is comfortable. There is only a sheet on it, but you don't need much more than that in the summer. There is a blanket in the wardrobe for when it gets cooler. A fan keeps the room nice and cool in the evening. There is also a mosquito net above the bed in the cabinita if you need it.

During the day you'll see the gardener keeping the grounds neat and tidy, and at night there is a night watchman.

Jim and Suzanne are always looking to improve their little gem of a hotel. While I was there I met many people who said how much they loved the place and wished they could stay longer, and others who were able to.

I'll be back next year and this time I plan on going for two weeks. It's the only place I'll go in Las Terrenas.

Muchas gracias for all of your kind words. We are always happy when guests return for another visit and we are pleased that you enjoyed staying in cabinita "Jeanne" as it is a very charming and truly authentic Dominican cottage. Thanks for your mention regarding our attentive and friendly staff and we will most certainly pass on your compliments as it means a lot to them to know they contributed to your enjoyment of the hotel. It's a wonderful compliment to us that not only do you plan to return again next year for a third visit but will stay for 2 weeks instead of just 1! There are so many restaurants, bars and beaches to visit and enjoy, that it is difficult to fit everything into 1 week. We look forward to seeing you again next summer!

Kind regards,
Suzanne & Jim

My stay at Casas del Mar Neptunia was wonderful! It was a relief to stay away from an all inclusive gated community. As soon as I met Jim and Suzanne, I knew I had made the right choice. They were great to work with right from the start. They were very helpful and resourceful in providing information about Las Terrenas (restaurants, good areas for shopping, transportation, things to do in the area, best beaches, etc.) The hotel is kept very clean. The rooms have screened windows and a fan. The breakfast area is gorgeous (and the breakfast is always abundant). In addition, the ambiance invites guests to interact with one another. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the beach and to the main street. The garden has many corners with beautiful flowers to see. The staff is very helpful and kind. I definitely plan on returning!

My boyfriend and I decided to spend a weekend in Las Terrenas. We choose Casas del Mar Neptunia because we wanted an adventure and not a luxury weekend, so we were not willing to spend much money on lodging. It was definitely a great choice. The atmosphere is very nice, the room was very clean and spacious. Excellent service. Simple, nice breakfast included. Susan, the owner, knows the area very well, if you need directions or help on what to do, don’t hesitate to ask her. She helped us even before we got there! Although the rooms doesn’t have air conditioning, they have good ventilation and a ceiling fan that keep them very fresh. No road noise. Don’t worry about your reservation, trust them. No credit card, just name and phone number; your reservation will be made and your room will be available waiting for you to arrive ;)
