The Peninsula House is an amazing romantic hideaway, offering the best service, amazing food and just an overall breathtaking experience. The owners are great people and their love or details, casual elegance, arts and antiques is highly contagious. You can feel the warmth and love in every corner.

The only problem with the Peninsula House is that you have to leave at some point...

Seriously a once in a lifetime experience....

The Peninsula House is not a hotel; is the dream house of your friends, and, beleive me, everibody there is treated as a family guest.
The main asset of this beauteful property is not the location or the view or the rafinated cuisine or the fineest china and silvery but the fact that property is runed directly by the owners.
Words can not describe enough the “mood” of beeing one of Peninsula House guest. You should go there and experience it on your own; in fact, property is much more beutefull then presented on their own web site!
One last sentence about the beach lounge (no, hotel is not located on the beach, but don’t consider this as a minus): The Beach House. Good food, good drinks & plesent athomospere. Don’t miss late aftrenoon opera sesion (or Cesaria Evora, as the case may be) and to give a pat to Tokoloshe the young black lucky cat of the place.

PROS: This is the Place to get away from typical vacation. The Peninsula House is run by their owners who will redefine your conception of "guest" and will bring it up to new and higher standards. Once there you will find little difference from the DR and the South Pacific. Exquisitely decorated without over doing it you will be pampered like royalty without the price tag. International cuisine will be your main curse of the day and total relaxation is the theme to be followed. And definitely a MUST if you want a romantic getaway to know her off her feet.

CONS: Two hour road trip (75 Minutes on well paved roads & 45 Minutes of bad and bumpy roads) Good News: New road is under construction that will cut road trip to 90 minutes and it is said to be concluded sometime next year.

The Peninsula House can arrange your entire trip from the Main Airport and take you to their house by road or by air. There is a heliport at the top of the hill and make it there in 25 minute flight from the airport.

As long as this place is run by their owners it will be a must on my list.

If you're looking for a luxury hotel experience in one of the most beautiful place in Dominican Republic then I strongly recommend you the Peninsula House. This estate is located just outside of Las Terrenas, on top of a hill offering dramatic views of the ocean, the coconut trees and the lush plant life. You can see right away that the owners paid a lot of attention to details because the house is absolutely stunning. They have spent a great deal of time designing it with taste, building it with the right materials and furnishing it with exquisite pieces brought back from their trips around the world (as instance, check the collection of African masks in the pool house). This place is even better than a “Relais & Châteaux”: not only the location, the house, the service and the food are all top-notch but also the family that owns and runs the property brings so much warmth and character to it. They’re genuinely friendly, irresistibly charming and passionately attentive to their guests.
The six suites are all very spacious and luxuriously appointed. In the house, you’ll find a library, a pool table, a gorgeous patio and many terraces. The vast swimming-pool sits on the edge of the well maintained and luxuriant garden. Did I mention that the in-house talented chef will admirably prepare any meals you’d like?
Last but not least, the owners are so thoughtful that they also wanted their guests to have an access to the beautiful beach of Las Terrenas; so they built a lovely restaurant called “The Beach” on Playa Cosón, just 5 minutes away from the main house. The food is delicious there too (same chef!) and the atmosphere chic and laid-back.
As you can read, I really fell in love with this very special place!

Your first glimpse of the Peninsula House, as you wend your way up the steep driveway lined with brightly blooming flowers, is an image not soon forgotten. From the immaculate lawn studded with just the right number of leaning palm trees, to the impressive, beautifully intricate facade, the wrap-around veranda, and the blue sky beyond, every detail embodies the ideal of a Caribbean getaway. And at the Peninsula House, the sublime truly resides in the details.

As we pulled up, Jerome, clad in white linen, skipped down the stairs to welcome us. We had our choice of rooms--we were lucky enough to be the only house guests for 5 out of our 6 nights--which was not an easy choice. Should we take the room with the exquisite view, the well-appointed bathroom, the world-class artwork, lavish sitting area, and four-poster bed? Oh, wait, they all have those things! After visiting and revisiting several choices, we picked our room and settled in for 6 wondrous nights.

And for those 6 days and nights, our every need was met by Thomas, Jerome, and the rest of the highly friendly and attentive staff. Needs we didn't even know we had were met! Nary were we out of the room 20 minutes when, upon return, our trash cans had been emptied, our linens straightened, our ice bucket refilled. Breakfasts were simple yet elegant, with fresh fruit, a selection of juices (each in their own unique crystal decanter), warm breads, shaved meats, and delicious cheeses. We spent each afternoon down at The Beach, the house's lunchtime restaurant/beach club on Playa Coson (about an 8-minute drive down the hill from the house). We sampled just about every item from the menu that week and all were exquisite. We drank delicious cocktails mixed with fresh-squeezed juices. We set up our loungers in the shade of palm trees and watched the waves roll in. We strolled down the largely undeveloped beach, pristine and wild and perfect. "What would you like for dinner," Thomas would ask us upon our return. "We just caught a tuna...might that be of interest? Or we could do lobster, marlin, dorado..." We sighed, longingly. We could get used to this.

Late afternoons we spent at the house's lovely saltwater pool, overlooking the green hills and turquoise waters of the Samana Peninsula. The poolhouse is stocked with towels, beer, wine, spirits, your standard collection of African masks. Dinners were elegant, refined, romantic, each on a new set of one-of-a-kind china ("This set belonged to the Aga Khan," Thomas would tell us, off-handedly). Oh. Of course they did. They were the kinds of nights you didn't want to end because in sleep, your senses would be deprived of the rustling of the palm trees, the fascinating open-air patio in the middle of the house, the eclectic artwork, the easy conversations you fall into on the veranda, the camaraderie of a late-night pool game. These are days that, if given a wish by a genie, you would ask to be repeated, indefinitely.

And so we get to the worst thing about a stay at the Peninsula House: it is, quite tragically, not indefinite. Departing on Saturday was a somber affair. We hugged Thomas and Jerome good-bye. We made sentimental declarations like "come see us in Atlanta!" We drove back to Las Americas airport in silence, the images of the week still dancing in our minds.

"When can we come back?" my wife wondered as we dropped off the rental car.
I sighed. Unfortunately, not soon enough.

I have never written a review before...but must share our experience with the world. The Peninsula House is a labor of love. No detail has been missed. If you with to escape, and be pampered beyond your imagination, this is your guest house. You can hear the surf from your bedroom, dine on fine french pastries in the am, with jam's and jellies that still dance in my dreams. You have not experienced luxury until you have visted the peninsula house. Warm, friendly, and the perfect get-away from it all! Go recharge your batteries now...and yes... make sure you have a massage! The beach is private - we rarely saw another visitor. Only open a short time... go before others discover, I expect to see a waiting list in no time at all.
