“Where can 5 couples have a wonderful vacation? Villa Vidorra!”
Reviewed March 6, 2018 for a stay in February 2018

Less than a week ago we were basking in sunshine, enjoying the beach and pool, eating delicious food, drinking amazing drinks, being spoiled rotten by the staff, routinely checked in on by the gracious owner and staying in one of the most beautiful houses in Mexico. Can it get any better than that?

“Exceptional!”
Reviewed December 31, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Our family of 11, ages 8 to 86, spent a week at Villa Vidorra and found it to be the perfect place for our family to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. The property provided the privacy, security and luxury we were looking for. Barbara was wonderful to work with - answering all our questions quickly and helping us arrange for transportation, a mariachi band, photographer, birthday cake and local excursions. Chuck and Chris were there to greet us and welcomed us like family. There is more than enough room for everyone to find a quiet space of their own along with plenty of areas for us to all gather together.

The home is gorgeous and offers every luxury while making you feel completely at home. Better than any 5 star all-inclusive resort, Villa Vidorra allowed us to enjoy our vacation without the worry of restaurant reservations, crowded pools or large complexes. Instead, we had a private home with our own stunning pool, white sand beach and delicious custom meals. Manuel, Luis and the rest of the staff are not only wonderful at what they do, but they are warm and go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. The owners have thought of everything in creating this exceptional home - you just need to pack your bag, book a flight and look forward to an amazing vacation. Thank you to all at Villa Vidorra for helping us celebrate a milestone birthday and the many wonderful memories!

The Villa is located approx. 1.5 hours from Cancun airport. It is secluded away from the hustle & bustle of the resorts. About 15 min's from Tulum. The Villa is beautifully decorated. Each room was thought out with privacy & comfort in mind. The bathroom/shower areas are sizable. Throughout the property there is ample seating to enjoy conversation, drinks or a place to admire the view. Kayaks & snorkel equipment is provided to enhance your experience while enjoying the bay. Your beach area with lounge chairs are a few steps away. Luis the bartender is attentive & pleasant. Chef Manuel prepared delicious meals and accommodated guest with food allergies. I cannot think of one thing that I needed or wanted to make my stay more perfect! Can't wait to go back for another fun filled relaxing vacation.

If you are looking for a little bit of paradise, this is the place to stay. The staff is amazing; making you feel very comfortable the minute you walk in the door with a welcoming cocktail and delicious meal. The service continues and even gets better through the week as they learn all the guests preferences. All our meals were outstanding and it's hard to please a group age 8-75, but it was done. The drinks (both alcoholic and not) were delicious and fresh. No artificial, syrupy, premade mixtures; our bartender was a pro and always seemed to know when your glass was empty. The snorkeling was amazing, even got to swim with a turtle right in front of the house. The villa is maintained very well, which again is a nod to the staff and care of the owner, who checks in with you during the stay to make sure all is well. There are plenty of places to relax, read, play games etc. You can be all together or as easily alone depending on your mood. None of us wanted to leave and could only hope there will be a return trip in our future.

“Magical experience!”

Villa Vidorra, Soliman bay, and the staff lead by Manuel and Luis were practically perfect. Last year we and another family decided to take a special trip together to celebrate our daughters graduating from high school this May. Our requirements made a search for the perfect trip seem insurmountable. We wanted somewhere fairly easy to travel to from Virginia, warm, crystal clear water, high end accommodations, privacy, great, healthy food, stuff for the teenage girls and their brothers to do, to be near cool, adventurous things to do, the ability to visit quirky markets, mobility if we wanted, and somewhere that fit our price range.
The other mom and I literally spent over 6 months trying to find something to fit the bill, including contacting three travel agents to try to get help (they just wanted to send us on cruises- NOT our style). We actually checked Villa Vidorra out fairly early in the search, but it is expensive and we wanted to make sure we explored our options. The reviews sounded amazing and it looked to fit the bill of all our wants- so we decided to pull the trigger. By the time I went to book it- the dates were limited and what was available wasn’t the greatest for our schedules- but we decided to do it and we are all so glad we did!
None of us had ever been to Mexico or Cancun. Imagine our surprise to land at the Cancun airport and find a well-organized space with clean bathrooms and easy to go through customs. Villa Vidorra’s owners had helped me book a van to pick us up, and a driver was waiting with a cooler full of ice cold water to whisk us away. The drive was a straight shot along a wide highway and lots of easy to understand signage. You literally drive for about 80 minutes and turn off the highway and are at the house.
What a house! It is exactly like a Ritz Carleton or other high end hotel. Beautiful tile and stone with dark wood and iron accents, cathedral ceilings in brick, and a huge dining room table with plenty of room for everyone. There are 5 bedrooms each with their own bathrooms. Three are master bedrooms with king size beds, and two have two king size beds each. You can easily sleep 14.
Luis, the bartender, met us with virgin Pina Coladas and after we chose our rooms, we were served the most delicious dinner by Manuel and his staff. The fish, grilled chicken and steak fajitas were incredible. The food the whole trip was really top notch. We had planned on eating out at some restaurants- but after two days realized there was no need to- Manuel was the best. We meal planned with him after dinner every day for the following day and he can pretty much cook whatever you want. The one meal we weren’t home for because we were heading to an adventure- he kindly packed us a cooler with lunch and drinks to bring with us. First class service the entire week. We weren’t drinking alcohol, but the kids (especially the boys) kept Luis busy making virgin drinks or banana smoothies. Do not leave without eating Manuel’s guacamole, ceviche, fajitas, chimichangas and breakfast burritos. The only down side of having people cook for you three meals a day- is you start to feel very, very full (tough life- huh?). My advice- we started telling him that we would eat leftovers- which he still would heat up and serve- which saved us money as well as cut down on waste. Since we aren’t drinkers, there were days when it was only about $60 per family, but the typical day was about $100. Obviously alcohol would jack the price up- but the food is amazingly inexpensive, PLUS you aren’t buying it, cooking it, serving it or cleaning up- all I can say is “wow”!
Even more beautiful than the house is the property. Nathaniel took care of the plants, beach and pool all day, every day and his hard work shows. The back yard has lots of shaded spots for sitting around the unique pool, but even better are all the trees on the oceanfront where they have set up hammocks and huge seats under the shade. When not in the ocean, we all parked under the trees in the hammocks where it felt 20 degrees cooler. The beach and ocean are the best in front of Villa Vidorra. It’s crystal clear and so warm. There is sea grass right on the shore- but an eddy in front makes an easy path out. There are three kayaks and two paddle boards, which we used constantly. It is a coral beach, so in the water, the ground is rocky. I recommend using the water shoes. Villa Vidorra has a huge selection of water shoes cleaned and ready, they really have thought of everything. I don’t remember reading about the snorkeling- but that was really fun for us all as well. It may not be the Great Barrier Reef, but there is plenty of cool things to check out if you are patient. There are also two flat platforms anchored out in the water that are fun to paddle, swim or kayak too and lay on to just enjoy the sun and views. And privacy? Well- there was never more than maybe 8 people in view on or off the water. A couple people would walk by, but because Villa Vidorra is the third property in from the entrance, it’s very quiet. There were many times where there wasn’t anyone else out on the beach or water but us.
We did rent a minivan for flexibility. Tulum is only 15 minutes away- and again a straight shot on the highway with easy signage- so don’t be worried about driving around. Our one adventure was an underwater cave tour called Rio Secreto, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was hands down the most well run attraction we’ve ever done. Again, clean bathrooms, great employees, easy to get to, and stunning caves. Don’t miss this- I really recommend it. We had planned to do some ruins touring, but in the end, just were having too much fun and relaxation to rally to go. We did go into Tulum for three quick shopping trips. If you want high end- find Jose Tulum store and walk around the shops there. If you want cool “market” type tourist spots- there are lots of spots on the main Tulum road. Our teen boys had fish “pedicures” where you stick your fit in tubs and little fish nibble at you. That was a funny highlight.
If you made it this far into the review- you know it’s all that it’s billed to be. The only teeny, tiny thing is there isn’t anywhere to exercise. The beach and road are too rocky to run. If you are an avid exerciser, you may want to bring a laptop and videos- or like us- try to walk and swim and think it’s a great break for your bodies.
Thank you to Chuck, Barbara, Chris, Manuel, Luis, Nathaniel and Vicki. Truly a special experience!

“Our own private boutique hotel! Exceeded Expectations!”

Our yearly girl trip gets better every year but Villa Vidorra will be a hard act to follow! Ten woman are a hard bunch to please and if we could give this property a 10 we would. The owner Barbara was on-site each day to make sure our every desire was delivered. Trust Barbara to ensure the best recommendations for day trips. She also arranged massages and facials for us on site. There is plenty of outdoor space to be together or alone. The villa opens up and the ocean breezes are to die for each morning! The staff is extremely professional and proficient. The house, linens, dishes, and property are meticulously maintained. We all got up at different times and the staff was happy to prepare our breakfast to order! The bartender was always ready to prepare a fancy drink or pour some wine. Chips and salsa on the beach or at the pool! We didn't get hungry or thirsty at Vidorra! The private beach was lovely. We always felt safe, had all the privacy we wanted, and were pampered the whole week. It was like having our own private boutique hotel!

“Absolutely Perfect Family Vacation”
Reviewed December 21, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

You can read over and over about how great everything is at Villa Vidorra, and all of those reviews are accurate. The house is amazing, the pool area is amazing, the "jungle" area is amazing, the beach is great for relaxing and for kids to dig and play in the sand. We traveled with eight adults and four kids, ages ranging from 20 months to 64 years old. Everyone had a wonderful experience. I believe the key to Villa Vidorra's charm is not the Villa but the people inside. Manuel is a great chef providing memorable dishes. His secret "orange" salsa blew us away. It became known as "awesome sauce" at the table, as in "pass the awesome sauce, please" and "this tastes amazing without the awesome sauce, but i put some on anyway". He broke out his "go to" specialities like chicken mole, chilequles, and the lobsters bigger than your head. The food was much better than I expected. Louis the bartender is a master of his craft. It took him one day to figure out everyone's favorite beverage, after that point they would just "appear" out of no where. The rest of the staff were all very accommodating and helpful. Chuck the owner stopped by numerous times to check on things and he even took my son and I to the hospital in Tulum after my son experienced an ear infection from snorkeling. I can't say enough about the people at Villa Vidorra.
Here are some tips that we learned that may improve your overall stay (if that is even possible). We hit Akumal for snorkeling with a guide and while we did see many turtles, squid, stingrays and fish I found the reef outside Villa Vidorra to be way better and the water was much much clearer than Akumal. We saw stingrays, octopus, and many different beautiful fish right outside our back door. The only thing missing were the turtles, but we spent hours snorkeling at the Villa. We hit two different cenotes including the famous "dos ojos". I found that cenote to be more "scuba" than snorkel. It was nice but definitely more for scuba. We hired a nanny from tulum to help with the kiddos and she was simply amazing. I will provide contact info if anyone is looking for a nanny. We had yoga class each morning in the front yard. It was a great way to start each day and the instructor was great. This was the third Villa in Mexico that we have rented and it was the best in every way. I tend to avoid returning to the same place twice due to the belief that there are so many different places I want to explore but Villa Vidorra is so good I may break that rule. Thank you Chuck, Barbara, Manuel, Louis, and everyone else for a fantastic trip.
