I went here today for lunch with my husband and another couple of friends. It was faultless from start to finish! The staff are welcoming, there when you need them, really helpful yet unobtrusive.
There is a plethora of places to choose from within a 15 min. drive from Oakham and this one has to be the best all round. (It's also conviently situated for Melton Mowbray.)
Three of us ate from the £11.95 for 2 courses menu,( plus puds.) and the fourth chose à la carte. We shared an excellent bottle of reasonably priced red wine and complimentary bottles of water were waiting on the table. There was a choice of three starters and a choice of three simply delicious main courses. The three of us each chose a different main course and all commented on how good it was. For afters, their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream on a crumble base, served on its own wooden platter was the best we've ever tasted.
We weren't rushed, though it was so busy that we were given a specific time to arrive. Presumably, this was so the chef didn't have to prepare too many dishes at a time, keeping evreyone waiting, as so often happens in poular places. A brilliant idea.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely old restaurant to anyone. From now on, it will certainly be our favourite in the Oakham area.
The total bill for the four of us came to £88, pleasingly unusual in this expensive area.
