“we loved the lodge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

A Group of friends and i stayed in the lodge and had the most fantastic time. everyone had room to move freely and there was plenty of privacy. the surrounds are simply breathtaking, just a short hike to the most amazing view of the mountains. another trail leads up a large foothill and you can see the whole property. i can not say enough good things about this place. it is tranquil and rustic but you still have all the comforts of home. the only thing that was a little annoying is that it was absolutely freezing in the house when we arrived. wouldnt be a bad idea to light a fire before guests arrival. or at least turn the heat on.

Room Tip: stay in the lodge if you have a large group. I promise you wont regret it!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience online.

The Lodge is truly one of our more unique accommodations, and one of a kind in the whole canyon. The size of the Lodge does indeed allow for a comfortable gathering of 25 people.

I have taken your note about making sure we start the heat earlier to our staff. We will make sure that in the future we give more consideration to this reality, and try to prepare an experience that starts off on the right foot.

Again, thank you for your kind words, and we look forward to seeing you again.

Our aim was to spend a few days 'off the grid' and so we booked the rather interesting-sounding 'eco-cabin'. We fully understood that the cabin was constructed from recycled materials and would be rustic and a little eccentric in nature. We found the access road to the resort to be far from 'terrifying' but it is basically at a logging road standard: trailer-haulers need to take it gently in one or two places, especially when leaving. The entrance to the resort (at least at this time of the year) is rather uninspiring, featuring as it does a large rusting grader to one side, various discarded pieces of machinery, and an old scruffy trailer. After booking in with the friendly and welcoming hosts, we were directed to the eco-cabin. We were frankly rather appalled to have to drive through what closely resembled a municipal dump on our way to the cabin (not very 'eco' when you have to drive past discarded mattresses and machinery, bags of garbage - all left among the trees). The cabin itself is indeed situated out of sight and sound from the rest of the resort, and would have a rather wonderful view if it wasn't for the power lines that pass within thirty feet of the deck and directly across the view of the Fraser Canyon. On a personal note we were also not very impressed with the genuinely loud train traffic (and we live in a town further west on the railroad, so it's not a new experience to have trains going past) which was evident at all hours of the day and night, and which is quite disruptive for a cabin advertised as a getaway style retreat. The cabin itself was unfortunately, not clean; the inside of the window was covered with dozens of houseflies (both dead and alive) and it took us more than 36 hours to be free of them. A spillage of cooking fluid or soup (not sure what it was, but it was green/brown) had not been cleaned up, and consequently the floor and the tote containing the (rather poor) cooking utensils were covered in the stuff. The bed was old and battered, although fortunately we came prepared with plenty of camping blankets to lay underneath us. The wood burning stove (and we brought our own wood as we use wood for heating at home) was almost useless for cooking upon - the stove is old and full of leaks which meant that the hotplates never got hot enough to boil a kettle in under an hour. All it was good for cooking-wise was keeping things warm, although it did heat the cabin effectively. We were forced to use the barbecue unit's side ring - much to our dismay - to boil water and cook meals. Again, not very 'eco'. On the subject of water, fortunately we had brought some of our own, because the promised water dispenser was not available. I'd have thought that this would be fairly fundamental. If you wish to go fishing on the lake (seems to be very small fish), bring your own boat; I used one of the resorts' own and it was decrepit: very small and falling apart. The surroundings are very pretty without being dramatic; the lake looks very picturesque and the Fraser Canyon is impressive (except for those darned trains). I wouldn't recommend the eco cabin to anyone, especially anybody expecting an environmentally sound experience. The cabin is poorly situated (in fact I found what looked like an old garbage dump partially buried only feet from the door), the resort seems to not care about this particular unit and seems utterly insensitive to the 'eco' element. We came prepared for 'rustic' and what we found was uncared-for and frankly half-assed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the online community. We welcome any and all feedback.

We do apologize for the state of our entrance. We find ourselves in the spirit of renovation during the fall, and as a result many items are in transition, and in temporary homes. Please rest assured that in the spirit of "eco" we do recycle our old mattresses and machinery, which is why they must remain on the resort until they can be properly disposed of. It would be much prettier if we simply hauled everything to the local dump, but that is not how we choose to conduct ourselves.

Truly there is no excuse for the cleanliness of the cabin. I have forwarded your comments to our cleaning staff, and disciplinary measured have been taken. We are deeply regretful for that circumstance.

Our eco cabin is a new addition, and we continue to refine the experience. We do hope that one day it is an appropriate and environmentally friendly accommodation. Customers such as yourself who truly embrace the idea of "eco" are what we believe to be the most important sources of improvement for us.

Thank you again for your comments. We hope that you will give us the chance to provide a relaxing vacation for you in the future.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the online community. We appreciate that you continue to encourage other to discover Blue Lake Resort.

Our frog migration this year was our biggest yet. We feel encouraged that this is a sign of a healthy lake and careful environmental stewardship. Although a slight inconvenience, it is truly a force of nature occurring before our very eyes.

We too cannot wait for next year. See you soon.

We had a delightful stay in Karen's cabin. Very private. Private dock (the best in the place in my opinion), private fire pit, lovely deck with BBQ and Hot tub. The cabin has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a double bed. The main living area has a kitchen/livingroom/dining room combo with a pull out couch. There is also a mudroom that has a door and could be used as a third bedroom with an airbed. Lots of room to put air beds down. Could share this with another family. Private canoe and life jackets too. The only downfall is the bathroom. It was pretty gross. It needs a full reno and in the meantime it needs a full scrub down/bleaching. The shower curtain was so moldy we couldn't close it. The lower cupboards in the kitchen were also very dusty. And there are also a lot of wasps around. They were willing to bomb them if we could find the nest but we had no idea. The lake is lovely, small, warm, but very nice. There are some nice short hikes right from the campground with some amazing views. I also noted that there were campsites with hook ups for RV's and a children's playground. There is a youth "rec" centre but not much to it. Very few mosquitos which were a nice treat. I think that's because of all the dragon flies around. Worth a stay, we will return. Hopefully after the bathroom reno's!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the online community. Karen's Cabin is indeed one of the best accommodations we offer and we are pleased that you enjoyed yourself.

You will be pleased to know that due to your suggestion, Karen's cabin will be receiving a new bathroom renovation, and has already had a new kitchen installed. In addition, 4 other cabin will be receiving new kitchens and floors. We hope that when you return you will approve of our efforts.

The nature of Blue Lake is indeed the selling point. Come back soon to laze about in the lake and hike the mountains. We look forward to it.

We just got home from a wonderful trip to Blue Lake Resort and wish we were still there. We stayed in Rustic Cabin 2 with our 3 daughters for 4 nights. The cabin is supposed to sleep 4 but there's plenty of room in the bedroom for an air mattress. The cabin is "rustic" but has a fridge/freezer, a propane stove and a coffee maker. We were very comfortable and slept great! The shower houses and washrooms were just a quick walk away and very clean.

The resort owners and staff are all very friendly and helpful. All of our camping 'neighbours' were happy and friendly. Everyone had a smile on their face.

There's so much to see! We enjoyed the bats flying around at night, the sky full of stars (you'll definitely see shooting stars), the eagles soaring, the hummingbirds, chipmunks, mice, deer, garter snakes, blue heron, baby frogs (there's thousands of them and it was great to see the care taken by the resort to help them grow up and migrate), fish jumping in the lake and much more. The lake itself is amazing! The water is so clean (no swimmers itch!!) and refreshing, at any time of day. There are a few newer docks to jump off of, as well as a couple of floating docks to swim out to and enjoy. There's a shallow area roped off between docks for the smaller kids and a sandy beach to play in. Don't forget a lot of sunscreen and some bug spray for the evening. It was 30* in the shade while we were there...hot hot hot, but awesome! Wish we had more time there to rent a boat and check out the whole lake. We heard there are beavers at the other end.

We took the recommended hikes in the area and enjoyed spectacular views from the mountain tops. Breathtaking! The "look out" hike is a bit of a steep climb for about 25-30 minutes (wear runners and bring water!) but it's so worth it once you reach the top! Don't give up! Don't forget your camera! The "falls" is beautiful and only a 3 minute walk from the office. Our girls found a spot just above the falls where there's a trail in the forest that leads down to the creek. An old wooden pathway crosses it. Make sure you check out the bear exhibit trail. Bring your camera! You never know what you might see ;-)

We are looking forward to spending yearly family get-aways at Blue Lake! Next Summer is just too far away! Maybe we'll be up a little sooner :-D

Thank you Findlay family for the great memories with many more to come!

Very big surprise this year- new washrooms and bathrooms ( we were there 3 ago first time). The lake is amazing, the road to the resort little scary but manageable . Would recommended this place to everyone . The first time we stayed in Pink rustic cabin - my personal preference I prefer camp and tent.
