Stayed at the millbrook in the quiet season - still expensive and I have to say the service was the worst that I have ever experienced.
Rooms were ok, but definately due for an upgrade, facilities you would expexct in a 5 star resort did not exist.
Upon arrival the receptionist let out that my partner had booked a massage for me, which he had specifically asked to be kept a secret. This alone was not major but add all the other things, such as the terrible service in the restaurant:- the waitress had no product knowledge, gave us no 'service' ie topping up wine or checking back on meals which you would expect from most places let alone a 5 star hotel.
At breakfast we were not even acknowledged!
You can have the facilities but if there is no service you have nothing!
I would not reccomend this hotel at all, its overrated and therefore expensive. Its only saving grace is the leisure facilities.

Nearing the end of our tour of NZ, we stayed at the Millbrook resort for 3 nights and have to say that we had nice stay. The views are absolutely stunning; this really has to be one of the most beautiful views we had for our entire trip. The mountains surround the resort and the contrast between the mountains and this stunning resort is breathtaking.

The hotel offers a free shuttle to Arrowtown, where we ate every night when we stayed because we could never get a reservation at any of the hotel restaurants. This happened every time we tried to book. The hotel doesn’t seem to have enough restaurants to cater for the guests when full. We actually preferred going out to have dinner but it would have been nice to have the choice.

Our rooms we relatively nice, they were clean and the beds were comfortable, HOWEVER, air conditioning is non existent, which again for a 5 star resort is unacceptable. When we stayed the weather was very hot meaning that we couldn’t actually sleep at night because we couldn’t cool the rooms down.

The golf course was excellent, with some very nice views on some holes. It’s testing in parts and fairly straight forward in others… It is a “resort” course though, so don’t expect a spectacular course design, what you do get though is a very pleasant round on a nicely designed new course in good condition – defintiely a positive vote from us. The hire clubs are excellent – all “Taylor Made”, though they also know this is an area where they can hit you in the pocket.

This claims to be a 5 star resort, I guess that Spa and the golf course allow for this ranking, however, I would class it more as a 4 star, having stayed in a number of 5 star golfing/spa resorts before Millbrook has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to the service that is provided, the service at this place wasn’t great.

Our lasting impression of the resort is that it caters and is really geared up to large bus loads of holiday makers, usually from the US and Asia, we found that this meant that it was over crowded at Breakfast time especially, meaning that they ran out of certain cereals/milk, bread every morning we were there- which quite frankly for a 5 star resort is unacceptable. The large parties of people actually ruined the experience because the staff couldn’t cope and service levels declined.

Overall, views were breathtaking, service wasn’t great! Not sure if we would stay here again!

Great spa and restaurants, basic rooms, no heating. Staff on the whole friendly but give them a problem and they fall down.

Place is starting to look tired and geared for the tourists or families, do not come here on honeymoon.

Spa is brilliant and keeps this sinking ship sailing

There are so many ways to mess up an old town: build something too tall, too modern, to jarring, too out-of-place. Fortunately, Millbrook has avoided all the too's and instead, created a luxury resort that looks pretty much like it's always been part of the landscape.

In Central Otago, New Zealand, that's a landscape with a lot of native stone, uninterrupted vistas of snow-peaked mountains, low and rambling buildings, and echoes of a mining past.

Millbrook accomplishes all that and more. The food at the resort's Japanese restaurant, Sala Sala, is unsurpassed. The location — between the vineyards of Central Otago and the lakes and mountains of Queenstown — is perfect. The natural beauty and the manmade beauty give the eyes a vacation. I'd hurry back there and stay as long as I could.

My husband and I stayed there for 9 days during our honeymoon - we had the most amazing time there.
The scenery around the resort is so beautiful.
Accommodation is very clean, tidy and excellent interior.
Food - excellent !
Staff - you feel at home and very welcomed. They are all very friendly. I have stayed in many places around the world. Here was the best staff attitudes I have ever encountered.
They are very helpful with local information/services.
I can't wait to go back!!!!

Millbrook is in a fairly isolated location. The grounds are extensive and well kept, but unless you are a golfer, this is not the place to stay when visiting the Queenstown area. The accomodations are quite frugal, the heating system in our room was totally inadequate, and the service, though friendly, was not competent. There is an extra charge for an internet connection in your room.
