Nice service and interesting menu. Soup of the day surprised us with the combination of tomatoes and coconut cream. Mussels were properly cooked. Salmon was executed perfectly well. Highly recommended.

“Good food in lovely old fashioned premises.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

The food was very good in this olde worlde setting but my wife and I thought that the service could have been better. We were the last to leave in the evening and we just got the feeling that they couldn't wait for us to go so that they could close for the evening. This was a great pity as it could have been a much more pleasant experience. Having said this, earlier in the day, we ate lunch here and the seafood chowder was excellent. The service was also better.

Dear MikeD,

We are pleased that you enjoyed the food we served you but I am sincerely sorry that you felt the wait staff were closing up around you. When it's coming to the end of the evening and there is only one or two tables left, the staff begin to make preparations to close, completing tasks such as polishing cutlery and glasses, changing menus over for breakfast service etc but in no way should this impede on your experience. It would never have been their intention and we are truly sorry that this is how you felt.

Kind regards,
Postmasters

“Nice location ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014 via mobile

We sat in the verandah, good spot for people watching.

We both had the fish and chips and thought that the serving was a little small. It was very good.

Service was top notch.

Facilities clean.

Dear Youngone51,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, we really appreciate it. We agree that the verandah is a great place to sit, soak up the atmosphere of the garden and watch the little world of Arrowtown go by. For $17, we feel the fish and chips is a really nice size portion, 140g of fresh fish, a portion of our hand-cut Agria potato wedges and a ramekin of our homemade tartare sauce. We are disappointed that you felt it was a little small but hopefully the quality and tastiness of the dish made up for it!

Thanks again and we hope you will visit us again on your next trip to Arrowtown.

Kind regards,
Postmasters

“Don't bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014 via mobile

Any restaurant with a sign out the front saying "open 9-9 daily" but has staff literally close the door in your face at afternoon tea time because they have been "too busy today" (even though there is ample room inside) doesn't deserve ongoing patronage. There are plenty of other places in Arrowtown; try one of them.

Dear RebeccaMelbourne,

I am sorry that we were unable to serve you the day you visited Arrowtown. We had had an exceptionally busy breakfast and lunch service and we were fully booked for dinner which commences at 5 pm. We made the decision at 3 pm to close at 4 pm for an hour in order to get the restaurant restocked, tidied and ready for dinner service. We took our welcome signs in which have our opening hours displayed and put closed signs on the doors. We apologised to you at the time and tried to explain the situation. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience we caused you.

Kind regards,
Postmasters
