“Underrated!”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

I honestly don't know what all these bad reviews are about -- I've been here half a dozen times and it's always great. The staff is super friendly and the bar/restaurant area is really warm and comfortable with good food. There's even a fire place on cold days and free wifi, which is basically unheard of in New Zealand. It's a great place to spend an afternoon or evening and just relax. Give it a try!

“Maybe it was just a busy night..........”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

Ate here with my husband and 2 other people. It was packed with large tables of people so we realized that it would be a while before our food came. We made the mistake of ordering as 2 couples because we wanted to pay separately and consequently we got two different numbers for the same table. Two of us got meals about 30 minutes later and by the time we finished them the other couple still hadn't got theirs.
I think it may have been an exceptional night, we will try again and let you know!

“Why bother?”
Reviewed March 14, 2012

After ten visits in the last year, finally have to say we will never return! Dirty tables, slack slovenly staff and disgusting food. Go downstairs and see all other better places available.

“A good night out”
Reviewed March 12, 2012

We went along for dinner and to watch the Super12 game between the Highlanders and the Crusaders. The fire was lit and it was cosy, with quite a lot of people already there when we arrived. My husband ordered the steak and eggs whilst I chose the lamb shank with mash. To order you have to go to the bar, so this is what D did and also order two dark ales which he bought back with him. When the meal came it was only D's. The waiteress who bought it didn't enquire if I was waiting for a meal (which I obviously was). We sat a while but when it became obvious D went to enquire at the servery and they had nothing more on order for our table. The barstaff had clearly left the lamb shank off our order. So he had to go back to the bar and order and pay for my dinner, which of course came about 20 mins later, once D had finished. The barman that took both orders brought it over but no apology was offered. We had a very nice evening otherwise - the food was good - D's steak was excellent - and it was great value. The ambience was good and the game was great. Once the rugby was over a band came on, but once again the staff let the place down - two women who were clearly totally inebriated got up to dance and really made a nuisance of themselves to the band constantly - until one of them fell down in a heap pulling the other down as well. In the light of such drunken behaviour I would expect the staff to step in. The gentleman in the two piece band was far from impressed, and didn't appreciate being hassled. Great place generally but you need to give your staff a bit of a rev up.
