“At home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

June and Arch made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Right on arrival Arch invited us for a beer in the beautiful garden and we immediately started to talk as we would know each other already. We (two adults and one little daughter) stayed in a big lovely decorated bed room with huge windows and colourful flowers infront of it in the garden and a bathroom with old vintage style bathtube. Every day June cooked a different style of delicious warm breakfast and selfmade jam etc. and every day we enjoyed it very much. June and Arch joined us every day for breakfast which was great and we learned so much about the surrounding and about them. It was perfect to stay in lovely and layed back Arrowtown with its very good restaurants and making day trips to lively Queenstown. After planned two nights we prolonged for another two as it was so comfortable staying with them – one thing we really missed out and which was a pitty was playing a round of bowl with Arch – next time. It was really hard to leave – as it is at home!

We stayed with Arch & June in April during the Arrowtown Festival. Although they were busy with their activities to support the town events they made us very welcome. We had wonderful breakfasts and were made to feel at home. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely B&B to any mature couples who want to relax away from the adrenalin of Queenstown. They didn't ask us to write a review unlike some other B&Bs & motels.

We stayed three nights in the charming classically decorated Suite 2 with a large queen bed and a single bed as well, plus two chairs for relaxing (20m2). The ensuite bathroom (5.5m2) was lovely and equally stylish decorated with a copper cistern and old lion-claw bathtub. Various bath-oils and something like 10 towels to choose from. The bed linen was extra fine quality and with real down covers. Coffee/tea facility, small fridge and good Wifi connection. Really quiet and just a short walk from the picturesque and historic village. Such a difference from busy Queenstown.
The house is newly built in old style according to the historic village centre requirements. We enjoyed having tea and home-made muffins with June and Arch outdoors on the patio. Being wakened up with the smell of freshly baked bread each morning was wonderful. The fully cooked breakfast was grand with many of the delicious ingredients (jams and preserves) made from their own garden. One evening was spent talking with to June and Arch in front of the fireplace in the cosy living room with a fine bottle of wine and little snacks (again with home-made chutney!). They had two mountain bikes for our use, but we were too busy doing all possible scary activities in Queens town.
Eating in Arrowtown has a variety of possibilities, but you can also have your late snack in nearby Queenstown which is much cheaper and has a larger variety of pubs and cafés We recommend the 1875 Bar & Restaurant in the Old Courthouse on Ballarat Street – very reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere.

The room was very clean and had everything we needed. The hosts were helpful in suggesting activities. We were told to get a continental breakfast but it was way more! Homemade muesli, pizza buns, rhubarb and raspberry compote, eggs and many more.

The Old Villa is a private home built in a traditional cottage style with two guest rooms left and right of the front entrance, so one doesn't feel they are disturbing the owners. One room and ensuite is smaller but has an outdoor table and chairs to sit in the cottage garden full of roses, fruit and vegetables. The other is more spacious with windows into the lovely front garden, but no outdoor access. Both are nice and full of wonderful homely touches; homemade biscuits, flowers, books, local information, selection of teas and coffee and thoughtful things such as appliance adaptors and wifi code. Our bed was very comfortable and the room impeccably clean.
Breakfast in the cottage's dining room was wonderful: homemade muesli and jams, fresh fruits and berries from the garden and homemade bread. Eggs were also offered - a great way to start the day!
June and Archie are great hosts with a wealth of knowledge of and involvement in the area and are very helpful with suggested activities. They are very hospitable in offering tea/coffee upon arrival and to share drinks with them in the evening.
The location is very quiet and only 5 minutes walk to the village.
A great stay with very hospitable, caring hosts - thank you so much.

Charming cottage B&B near centre of village. Peaceful location with mountains around. Within easy striking distance of busier Queenstown. Room/bathroom small but very comfy. Outside seating area. 2 night say with June & Archie. Tea & cakes/biscuits on our arrival with their relatives - made to feel part of family. Excellent continental & cooked breakfasts. Arrowtown was centre of gold mining in 19thC - check out Old Chinese Mining Settlement + many walks along river. Central Otago wine tours pick up in Arrowtown (try www.appelationcentral.co.nz). Excellent Indian restaurant - 'Mantra'.

We stayed for one night with June and Arch and were enchanted by the home, the company and the food. The Old Villa is just five minutes walk to the centre of town. Breakfast was an astonishing array of home cooking and organic food from their garden. We warmly recommend others to stay here.
