MY family and I traveled to Panama to enjoy everything that panama has to offer, but we are very impress with a unique place in RIO Hato which is called The Batea Restaurant. owned By Chef Cris Valencia who has a unique way of making you dream about his plates every day. I love seafood!!!!! but his incredibleble way of designing his flavors makes you break the barriers of traditional what sometimes is consider bizarre. I had his greatest creation His grilled, marinated, caramelized with this sweet heavenly taste cane syrup Octopus over Patacones, That was an Oasis of flavor and taste!!!!!! I also had his delicious, out of this planet Rib seasoned to a grade of flavor hard to describe and please!!!!! his rice with cashew something to die for. And to end your visit please ask for his key lime pie, it will not be the same for you after tasting this delicious dessert. Im back in the States but I definitely will go back and visit this incredible Restaurant, great place, fabulous ambience, clean place and great staff, hopefully you will meet Jorge who will greet you with a smile that will brighten your day and 100% you will fall in love with Chef Cris who has an incredible experience in what he does, who will chat with you with pride and joy about his fusion of flavors in his unique way, sweeping your feet from the ground asking for more. Beautiful country, humble people and most of all extraordinary cuisine. Love the BATEA RESTAURANT!!!!!!!!!! CHECK IT OUT ASSAP!!!!! You will be enchanted for ever.

The menu is eclectic fusion cuisine and, according to Chef Cristobal, melds international tastes and flavors including techniques from Africa, the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America. His pride and joy is his octopus: marinated, grilled, and then adorned with caramelized cane syrup over patacones. This octopus would make Anthony Bourdain smile. The pairing of the tender, succulent octopus with the caramelized syrup and patacones was incredible. Although not overly sweet, it almost could have been dessert! The Arborio rice (another specialty) is an African/Jamaican marriage, using fish, shrimp, red onion, olive oil, jerk spices, and red ink. The dish was a cross between Italian risotto and Spanish paella. It was melt-in-your mouth rich and delicious. Chef serves Peruvian style ceviche with Tiger’s milk. No, it’s not real Tiger’s milk, but the Peruvian citrus-based marinade that cures the seafood into a ceviche. Chef Cristobal uses celery, garlic, onion, lime, ginger, and probably a couple of secret ingredients. Often in his dishes, he adds a seasonal fruit or vegetable. Our ceviche contained some sweet potato, but on a different day it might have been avocado, thus he maintains the basic dish while adapting to seasonal availability. This restaurant is a very welcome addition to this typically all-inclusive beach community in Panama.

This rather large Restaurant is located in the Fish Market Complex near the the new "Rio Hato Airport". Look for the the La Batea Sign to the left side of the building. I have been to this restaurant several times with friends/family, by myself and even taken dinner to go. It is in unassuming place because you don't expect to see a Restauant in the Fish Market Complex and it is a little hidden. When you walk inside you will see that it is larger than you would expect with lots of seating in a clean comfortable environment. The menu ,( I always get some sort of Fish or Seafood) has a enough variety to make everyone happy. The Ceviche is excellent. I would suggest the Sea Bass (Corvina) with one of the available sauces. All of the seafood dishes are great. I met some friends in the restaurant on the weekend and one was having the Ribs and the other was having Scallops, both said they very much enjoyed there dinner . Chris the Owner, is almost always there. He will customize your dish to your liking, he is always willing to accommodate (very good English). He seems to love cooking! Great Service as well!

We thoroughly enjoyed dining in this restaurant. The staff speaks good English and provided excellent service. Food was great (didn't see any fried foods) and the seafood was fresh. Biggest sea scallops I've ever seen! Portions were generous. Only about 10 min from the JW Marriott. Prices very reasonable.

We ventured out of the JW Marriott to grab dinner at La Batea based on some recommendations from other guests. The food was excellent, service very friendly. We enjoyed the Snapper and Sea Base in a Coconut Sauce. Well presented.

Price was great, food great, atmosphere great. Highly recommend it.
