My husband and I went to the Bristol to take some days off. The night of our arrival my husband was feeling sick, he had eaten some seafood and it probably wasn't as fresh as we had assumed. He started vomiting for five straight hours, until we decided to take him to the hospital because he was completely dehydrated...so we called the front desk to see if they could bring a doctor to see him but they said they didn't have anyone available. So we tried to get a taxi, but since the hotel is far from any big city it would take around 30 minutes to get there..we couln't wait that long so finally I remembered that we had a rental car and finally asked if somebody from the staff could take us to the hospital and thank God they did. The nearest hospital was 40 Km from the hotel! Definately if it was a life or death situation we couldn't have made it. My recomendation is if you have children or are traveling with adults that have a medical condition do not stay at the hotel...they definately are not prepared to handle emergency situations.

And if you're going around this time of year (low season) I would't recommend it since they are constantly doing repairs, we could hear in the morning loud hammering in the room next door, we had to call twice to the front desk to ask them to stop.

It's really a shame we had such an awful experience, the hotel it self is in great condition. I hope they improve a lot of the issues mentioned!

With regards to the early morning repairs, the Director of Engineering and the Front Office Manager have been notified.

Originally, we planed to go to Caribbean side beach, but we went to this resort because our Panamanian friends recommended it as the best resort in Panama. The resort was located in fancy high end development complex. It just opened a month ago, their web site was not even completed. We stayed 3 nights, we had wonderful relaxing time. The resort was Magnificent in anyways. Room was very tastefully decorated and very clean. Ground was beautifully manicured. Wonderful breakfast buffet served out side court yard. Restaurants were very good. Multiple pools were exceptional and very nice to hang out, we did not even went into ocean. Staffs are very nice, warm and helpful even though their English could be better but they were trying very hard. Hey, we were in Spanish speaking country and we could not speak a work of Spanish. We used wonder a private car service company run by Jose for tours, transportation to Buenaventura Bristol hotel. All the drivers and guide were not only spoke good English but also highly educated, it was great way meet local people to learn about Panama. Also all the car was nice and clean, price were lower than street taxi.

This is my second visit to Bristol Buenaventura, my first visit was in March and it was a total disaster!!! (It had only been open for a month), came back last week and service was impecable, the hotel itself is really beautiful, room is very well apointed and super comfortable beds and bathrooms, food on the Beach club was great , but the main restaurant (Tamarindo) at the Hotel was just ok, it was a weekend but not many people around so it felt like it had no ambiance, pool at hotel was empty all the time, after dinner there truly is nothing to do but go to the bar, I am not a drinker so being at the looby area with no one around it felt weird , so back to the room...breakfast was great and we apreciated the gym being open (7am to 4pm) the spa wil open by the end of the year..overall a great hotel with exellent service but in need of promoting it more and also having acitivities for guest to do specially at night. I am sure I will be back...
Congratulations to all the employees, they make the difference!!!!

I spend a couple of days during Easter weekend, and I have to tell you I was amazed by the service, decor, food and rooms at this hotel. This is by far the best hotel in the country. Once you get there, if you have been to Panama before, you will know what I am talking about. The people who work in the hotel are really friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you feel comfortable. Decor is top-notch and on par with any Ritz Carlton or St. Regis property around the world. Food is the best part and an experience in the hotel. Famous panamanian chef Cuquita Arias developed the menu and is personally in charge of the restaurants. What can I tell you about the rooms :-)))))). They are big, comfy, have top of the line designer furniture, 42 inch plasmas with on command systems, top linens, Molton Brown amenities, tub, huge shower and other beautiful things to discover. The hotel is located in the pacific side of Panama in the best stretch of white sand beach there is around. Also a plus, calm beach. If you want to spend a relaxing time at a top top hotel this is the place. Most probably it will be more expensive in the future. Its a new hotel, so please do not expect to see every single tree in there grown like the ones in your father´s neighborhood. Like any other new 5 Star hotel some minor things are in the process of being fixed.. I really do not understand how somebody could make a bad review of this hotel. The developers went over the top and made it...You will surely love the place.

We drove down from the City on Domingo for a day trip. Stopped off at the Bristol for Brunch. The Price was $35.00/per person the Food at the new McDonald's in Coronado is better than the Bristol. Would Never visit again. The location would be nice if you didn't have to drive thru the Cocle garbage dump before getting past the other Half Built construction projects in the vincity.

Well.. the only phrase that comes to mind is unmitigated disaster. The “resort” is in the middle of a gated community that honestly has maybe 10% of the houses built. You feel like you are driving through a Texas suburb that was in early development just before the last housing collapse. It makes for a hugely eerie feeling, especially at night. The construction workers for the houses / condos surrounding the hotel are hanging around. Even saw them sitting in the back yard of a house where the residents were away.

The hotel advertises many nice amenities. Some of which are common w/ the community in which it sits.

Going by the web site: 5-restuaruants [only 2 open: one buffet, one fine dining, and then there is the bar service at the pool (literally only three items hot-dog, club sandwich, and a hamburger)] Spa – Nope. Gym – Nope. Room Service – Nope. Gardens – Half dead palms and sod that is already turning brown I don’t think should count. Private Hotel Pool – of the three parts, only one is open and can hold maybe ten people. Beach / ocean front pool – ten minute walk through a construction zone. A common club house w/ the residents of the community, which means that there was at least twice the number of people for which the club was built. The beach is really steep, and clearly been over grated. Not comfortable at all. 5-star service – polite, but ran out of beer, made short drinks, .. got every order in the restaurant wrong, check-in was late, cleaning service lack luster and very late in the day, took my laundry a full two days.

The hotel is physically very nice, at least the half that is done. But man… even when the teething pains are done, this hotel will be nothing more than a nice place for those that live in the gated community to have their friends / relatives stay. It is completely overrun with kids.

It will be years before the landscape grows in and the area around the hotel is close to being acceptable. So if looking for a 5-star get away on the beautiful Panamanian Pacific coast, to relax and refresh in luxury… Stay away.
