We're back here after less than 6 months since our first visit, quite simply because we love the place! This time we came prepared with a large bag of carrots for the animals. As with the last trip, Sue was warm and welcoming, and full of helpful tips and advice on places to visit, and only just a phone/text away if we needed anything. The chalet was spotlessly clean, just as remembered it last time. This time we spent a few days just chilling in the lovely tranquil surroundings.
Our only regret this visit was not booking it sooner as there were only 4 days available during the week of our trip. We're hoping to return some time in 2018... :-)
Before our arrival, we received a welcoming text message from Sue which included some useful local information. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown around the property. If you need anything, Sue is just a text message away and usually replies within a few minutes. She is also a font of local information, tips and advice, from where to shop, when the shops are closed, and suggestions on where to visit.
The gite is surprisingly spacious inside, it’s like a Tardis! The photographs don’t do it any justice at all – it is far larger than it looks.
It was spotlessly clean inside, and very well laid out. It was tastefully decorated, very much in keeping with the original roots of the building. I particularly enjoyed the exposed wood. The flooring was tiled throughout, but there were several rugs where you needed them.
The kitchen area was both well equipped and laid out with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Access to a washing machine was also available upon request if required.
The lounge area had a comfortable sofa, a sofa bed, table & chairs and a flat screen TV with a UK Freesat receiver, so additional English language programmes were available.
The bed was comfortable, with ample storage space in the bedroom. There was a large pile of fresh towels available to use.
The shower is huge! There is plenty of space to turn around without bumping into the walls. It held temperature very well, pressure was also very good. I quite liked the decorative floor tiling, something else that gave the gite character.
La Boulangerie is set in the middle of an old farm. As such, there is a fairly sizeable lawn around the building which is ‘private’ for the occupiers of the chalet. The main farm building was superbly converted from a decrepit old barn 11 years ago and now forms another gite. You will find yourself in company of friendly ponies, a donkey and Cats. A wide variety of birds are also present at the location. The area is very relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of city life but also conveniently located for shopping. Another benefit of this gite is the convenient location for day trips to St Malo and Mont St Michel.
If you’re into astronomy, this would be a great place to stay. On one clear night, there were countless more stars visible to the naked eye than back home. Next time we visit, I’ll definitely go light on the luggage so that I can pack my telescope!
This is an amazing property, which was extremely pleasurable to stay in. We definitely hope to revisit soon.
Negatives: You may find yourself visiting the supermarket on a regular basis to buy carrots for the animals! :-)
