Katherine Gorge is really a must see on any trip to the outback, and the vast distances between towns mean you pretty much need to bunk down in Katherine overnight. Katherine is a perfectly nice town and streets better than one or two other places you may find yourself in your travels in this part of the world, but the accommodation is nothing to write home about. We chose the Katherine Motel and were generally happy with it. We never received a confirmation of our booking so we were a little nervous, but it all turned out well. A young boy was in charge of the main office and he checked us in smoothly, and gave us directions and tips on eateries, etc. He was quite poised and I liked him, in fact he and his mother were both really nice and one of the good points of the Motel. The rooms were basic but clean and the bathrooms were decent. They seem to do a brisk business and the place was full. The people next to our unit sat outside drinking beer and smoking, and left their empties on the table outside our unit, which wasn't so nice, a little unnecessary and impolite. They also parked their large vehicle in the spaces reserved for our units, which was gratuitous and selfish. It's no judgment on the owners but you get a real mix of clientele here, the fine and the crass. There were also perfectly nice people in evidence, taking their children to the small pool, minding their own business, etc. We had dinner at the restaurant/bar on site, which was cosy and pleasant. It had an outdoor seating area but we went inside to watch the olympics on their telly, which the kids enjoyed. The man at the bar was friendly and the food was simple and good, especially after a long hike at the gorge. In the middle of the night we were woken by some local aboriginal people screaming and carrying on behind the motel. it went on for quite some time. My husband closed the window and turned up the A/C, and we eventually got back to sleep. We were later told that this can be a scam to lure tourists out to be robbed, but we will never know. The owners were again very pleasant on check out and gave us good advice for getting breakfast as their restaurant is not open in the morning. (Go to Coffee Club, quite busy and brisk with decent brekka). Overall we are happy we stayed here and wish the owners well, but just be aware there are a few slightly sleazy and inconsiderate types around and adjust your expectations and responses accordingly.

This is a decent, no frills, plain-Jane motel. Nothing special, but given the remoteness, it was comfortable and adequate. The hotel was convenient and easy to get to. The room was clean. I have no complaints whatsoever and would return if I was in the area..

Stayed here August for one night. Terrible odor in room, stench unbearable. Noise from adjoining rooms having big drinking sessions with underage people coming and going, did not stop until around 6am. Manager unable to be contacted despite leaving several messages, although room rate refunded promptly would never return!

I arrived in Katherine and found the Motel to be just off the main street. It's conveniently located and was within a walking distance to MacDonalds and Woolworths. Also it's enroute to Nitmiluk National Park.

The rooms were very basic and dated, but that didn't bother me because of the price I paid ($120 overnight). However, the bed sheet were old and the smell turned me off. The pillows were thin and flat. The bed did not give much support either. The airconitioner was also noisy. Luckily on the night we stayed the temperture was quite cool so we didn't have to leave airconditioner on.

I am not sure if I would go back...it's such a shame because the Motel is nicely located.

Very basic hotel with a reasonable price for an overnight stay in Katherine.
The Bed and Bathroom both clean but lacking in comfort.
Might just of been the night we stayed or the location of our room but we found it
to be very noisy. A bit of noise from the rooms around us and some from the nearby pubs as people were leaving but main issue was what we assumed was delivery/ rubbish collection at the Woolies complex behind us.

Room Tip: Rooms in a quaderant stay away from those near the shopping complex

We stayed here for one night in May.
Amused to be checked in by a young boy, around 10 years old - new what he was doing, even managed the credit card machine!
Room was clean and comfortable.
We ate at RJ's (the restaurant attached) and the food was reasonably priced and nice.

Had pleasure of staying one night at Katherine Motel in standard room. Clean, comfortable and very quiet (despite pubs nearby) and reasonably priced. Close to everything in town. The owner was quite laid back (true to Katherine style) and very hospitable. Great no-mess, no fuss place to stay for an overnighter in the area! Would stay again.
