Owner description: Spectacular all year - see this area from the ground in the dry season, and from the air in the wet season. The Jim Jim Area is only accessible by 4WD during the dry season. Visitors can explore the spectacular and challenging walks or take a boat shuttle ride to Twin Falls over crystal clear waters (charges apply). Scenic flights are also very popular, and allow visitors to see the spectacular Jim Jim Falls, which are in full flow only during the wet season

Went for a paddle at the hidden beach at Jim Jim falls. The hike to the falls was challenging but well worth it.

Jim Jim Falls certainly is a beautiful area and we love hosting visitors when the wet season dries up. Don’t forget it’s risky to swim in these areas due to the very real possibility that crocs may be present – keep an eye out for safety signs around the park and please be cautious. The only place we can guarantee a croc-free swim is the local swimming pool at Jabiru. We want to make sure you come home safe from your Kakadu adventure!

It’s great to hear you popped down from Darwin! We always like to hear how the locals enjoyed their visit. Don’t forget to tell your friends what a great time you had – and remember to be on the lookout for crocs if you are dipping your toes in the water! They can move into water holes at anytime, so keep an eye out for the safety signs.

It was a shame that Jim Jim falls were still closed mid April, next visit I would check before to make sure road is open. We did a flight with Kakadu Air which was well worth it.

Sorry you couldn’t get in to Jim Jim when you came, but glad to hear the view from the air was impressive. Jim Jim can take a while to open after the wet season, because we can’t clear the area of crocs until the water levels come right down. Jim Jim falls rarely opens before June (only once in thelast five years) and never as early as April because the tracks are still flooded. Jim Jim Falls and the campground opened up on the weekend, and our rangers are working to catch the last elusive few crocs so they can safely open the Jim Jim Creek crossing area soon. Did you know you can access a daily road access report on the Kakadu website before you travel?

The 40 minute drive to the base of the escarpment is a great 4 wheel drive experience.

The camping ground area has two structures which are a real credit to Kakadu National Parks team in look and design.

This whole area is worth 6 to 8 hours if a day outing.

But I really recommend staying overnight in the camping ground.

Check out the Park website for road information and area information.
