“Disappointing Hotel”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

We agree with many of the previous reviews that the hotel is rather tired and shabby and in need of refurbishment. On our arrival we found that the hotel had no reservation for us despite our printed confirmation of our online booking. The receptionist was initially rather brusque but after waiting about 15 minutes and following a phone call to the sister hotel at Cooinda our room was confirmed. We had a room on the first floor and had to lug our suitcases up two flights of stairs as there is no lift. No assistance was offered. On a more positive note our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and was mostly clean. We had both a bath and shower in the bathroom. The reception area was modern and spacious with a range of lovely aboriginal artwork on display. However, most of the other communal areas are rather tired and shabby looking, including the restaurant which was dark and uninviting and quite pricey (we ate at the nearby Kakadu Lodge which was cheaper and had a lovely atmosphere by the pool). There was plenty of room for parking but very limited shade (essential in the hot Kakadu weather). As we managed to get our room on a half-price deal it was value for money, however at full price it certainly would not have been. This hotel is billed as the place to stay in Kakadu so was disappointing overall.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is not a lift at the hotel so luggage has to be carried up flights of stairs.

Dear Diane M,

Thank you for your feedback in regard to your stay at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed our room facilities at the hotel and I have taken on-board your comments in regards to the common areas of the hotel. It is through the constructive criticism provided by travellers such as yourself that we at the hotel are able to constantly review and enhance our procedures and processes in order to improve the guest experience.

While we do not have elevators at the hotel, we do have three dumb waiters for the transportation of baggage from the ground floor to the first floor.

In your time in Kakadu, did you take the opportunity to go on a fishing tour at Yellow Water?

Kind Regards

Accommodation is very limited in Kakadu/Jabiru, so Gagudju was the only choice.
The room was large and clean, however very tired looking. The door to the bathroom wouldn't shut.
The pool surrounds are in need of maintenance.
They don't advertise that you can purchase drinks from the "makeshift" bar to drink poolside.
We were asked to make a reservation for dinner as the restaurant gets full. We arrived early and had a drink in the "makeshift" bar, and went to see if we could get our table early - 10 minutes. We were told no, to wait. So we went back to the bar, another drink and waited. After 30 minutes I had to ask if our table was ready - it was and had been since we first asked!
Prices are extremely high. However food was lovely.
We weren't offered the dinner/breakfast special when we checked in. However when we were settling bill at the end of dinner, the waiter suggested that we qualify and would we like him to put us on it? Turns out to be the best suggestion, we got breakfast and still saved about $30 on what we would have paid for dinner alone!

Choices are limited in Kakadu and this is reflected in the outrageous prices and general lack of quality control.

While the room was reasonable the rest of the hotel was pretty shabby and the perform of staff woeful. When we checked in we were told to walk up the stairs across the top and down the stairs again to get to our room, but guess what - we could have just walked through the pool area with no steps. And I have a hip replacement so I wasnt too happy.

Dinner service was totally disfunctional. We waited 45 mins just to get our entrees which appeared immediately when we asked what happened to them. Seems they were just sitting around and forgotten by staff. There is a dinner/breakfast deal which you should take up as the a la carte prices were outrageous. Only problem - we werent told about it. Luckily I read trip advisor and asked when we checked in. We only took the dinner option but they tried to charge us twice for the double option.

They really need to lift their game if they want to work under the IHG banner. I note even the manager's responses to reviews are simply cut and paste. What about a bit of original thought.

The staff are lovely, however the maintenance of the hotel leaves a bit to be desired. Our room (109) was beautifully furnished and the beds were very comfortable. However the bathroom was neglected, the toilet seat was bubbled and stained - quite revolting. I filled in the guest card and advised the receptionist, however i'm sure i wasnt the first person to complain about this.
We ate in the restuarant one night, after heeding the very firm advice that we must book in advance. Although the room was only about half full we witnessed two young men in front of us being turned away because they hadnt made a reservation. The hotel coffee machine was not in action due to renovations however the very helpful staff member recommended the cafe over at the shopping strip, where we had very satisfactory barista service.

Probably the best hotel you'll find in the Jabiru area, but a bit tired. Friendly, efficient check-in. The reception area is fine, but the common areas, stairwells, corridors etc. leave much to be desired. Don't be dispirited as you walk to your room -- the rooms are fine, with effective A/C, even though the corridors are somewhat shabby, dirty and unkempt. Internet is a shocking $29/day -- amazing the Australian consumers put up with this! No elevators in this 2-storey hotel -- if you have luggage to lug, make sure you get a ground floor room. Couldn't get a booking at the restaurant as it was Anzac Day 4/25 (although it was only 1/2 full when we walked by later), so did room service instead. Good food, prompt service, but not cheap. Fish-n-Chips $29. Room was $179 for the night, also not cheap, but not much choice in the area. Nice billabong setting in the area between the rooms blocks, loud but welcome birdsong in the morning.

The hotel is gorgeous, shaped like a crocodile. the pool was refreshing and service excellent, dined at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed the meal and wine. very handy to attractions.
Unfortunatly they had a routine power outage from 3-10am which we were not advised of and not offered any discount... so no fan, a/c or lights.
Also the rooms are very basic and in need of an upgrade.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor

The power outage experienced during your stay from 3am to 10am was dictated to us from the mine which controls all power in the township of Jabiru and was beyond the control of the hotel. I apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced due to this power outage.

Checked in and told there will be no electricity! should have called us about this planned outage - no discounts what so ever.

Bad value for money, deluxe didn't seem like deluxe. Seemed like a run down 2 star motel.

No elevator or assistance with our luggage. Had to change rooms three times due to dirty rooms.

Restaurant was a joke, everything over priced and closed at 9pm. Staff were unorganised and unhelpful.

Room Tip: go down the road to the caravan park for a better room.
