Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel
Reviewed November 28, 2011

Not expecting too much due to location and previous reports from people. Was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door after a long day. Ground room very nicely decorated, ochre colours blending in with earthy tones. Nice wooden furniture. 2 beds with great selection of pllows labelled soft, firm etc.
Bathroom great size and great quality toiletries.
Outside door leading to pool with a couple of wooden chairs and small table. All very pleasant.
Pool very small but the hotel was very quiet so it wasn't overcrowded .
Restaurant currently been renovated but our meal was lovely slightly overpriced but service excellent.
Wonderful art gallery which has some wonderful aboriginal art but just adds to the wonderful country and culture of Kakadu and Arnhem land experience.
I am determined to return with my family again for a wet season break as I was so impressed

Dear sam63

Thank you for your feedback in regard to your recent stay at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn and I was happy to read you enjoyed the comfort of our rooms.

In regard to your feedback about the pool, I must admit that several fellow travellers have also commented on the size. When the hotel was built, the designers were determined to keep the features of the hotel anatomically correct in scale so the pool is the size of the crocodiles heart if the hotel was a real crocodile. While we have looked at perhaps altering the size of the pool, it is felt that this will impinge on the vision of the original design and alter the uniqueness of the hotel.

Thank you again for your feedback and I would be delighted to see yourself and your family back at the hotel in the future.

Kind Regards

We recently spent 2 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The rooms are quite spacious. Ours was on the first floor and had a queen size bed and a single. There was also a small coffee table and 2 armchairs as well as a small desk. Our room had a view to the pool area and the sliding glass doors opened to allow some fresh air in although we didn't have a balcony. The bathroom was a good size and very well equipped with excellent quality toiletries. The room was clean and the beds comfortable and they even have a pillow menu! We heard no noise from outside or from the adjoining rooms unlike some places you can stay. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and found all the meals to be of excellent quality, especially the beer battered barramundi :) All staff were friendly and helpful particularly Jared who always welcomed us with a bright smile and a cheerful hello. There was a minor problem with our fridge during our stay. It had accidentally been turned off for cleaning and the staff had forgotten to turn it back on. The freezer defrosted and water leaked out all over the tiled entry and the bedroom carpet. We phoned reception who immediately sent someone to attend to the problem. He was extremely apologetic and quickly took steps to clean up and make the area safe. He needed to use some of our bathroom towels to clean up and he phoned down to housekeeping asking for them to supply replacements. Unfortunately housekeeping let his excellent service down as we had to call again several house later asking for the towels to be supplied. All that aside I am happy to recommend this hotel and we will stay here again if we ever get back to Kakadu.

Room Tip: If you are on the first floor there is no lift so ask at reception for them to bring your bags up fo...

We booked through Hotwire and got in at $150 per night which was about $80 cheaper than all the other sites. As with everything else in the Northern Territory it was extremely expensive. The lobby itself was nice, however there was no free wi-fi. We paid $20 for 3 hours and on the last day the internet was down. The rooms were very average and the water pressure was sub par. They offer a "Smile package" when you check in that gives you breakfast and dinner for $55 per person (Kids eat free). It seemed really pricey but we ended up doing it two of the four nights based on the lack of otherdining options. The restaurant service was extremely slow by American standards. The best part of the entire stay was the staff. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Chris, one of the managers even printed out the weather forecast for our next destination and left it in the room unexpectedly.

Room Tip: Use Hotwire. Even though the Hotwire rate does not list the Hotel this is the only hotel in the area...

Dear Deamole

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn and I was delighted to read your comments about our warm and friendly staff.

In order to enhance your experience, should you choose to visit us in the future, please be advised that guests are able to purchase internet access for a 24 hour period for only $27 rather than the three hour option.

I have taken onboard your comments about the pricing of the "Smile Package" and will review this with my Food & Beverage team, although, I must confess that $55 for an all you can eat breakfast buffet and a three course dinner meal is in-line with most other 4 star hotels in Australia.

The hotel has a lovely pool area, the rooms are clean and attractive if a little dated. The restaurant serves good food, but is not cheap.

We enjoyed our stay here, it is central to the sights of the park. The rooms were nice and the staff were friendly. Keep in mind there aren't that many amenities in Jabiru and the hotel is the only place to eat. The restaurant was very poorly managed, it was like they were trying to have a posh restaurant in the middle of the outback with backpacker staff. The night we ate there there was only one wait staff for 20 tables and one bartender who had to look up the ingredients of every drink, my partner was finally served his drink after we were finished our meal. My suggestion to them is to just have a pub style restaurant. Other than the disappointing meal, our stay was great.

We were absolutely delighted with the accommodation at the resort. The rooms were spacious, clean and overlooked the billabong and pool. The bathroom was very clean and the toiletries, especially the shampoo, were great. The bar staff, especially Jarrod, could not have been more helpful or patient, each time three very hot and thirsty travellers appeared after a tour. The Barramundi( beer battered) was to die for and I now have withdrawal symptoms. The service we had from a young european waitress, was also extremely good. The only grumble I have is the fact that there are no overhead lights in the bedroom, which made things slightly difficult. I can't recommend the resort highly enough. As the ad says"You'll never, never know, if you never, never, go,"

Room Tip: I prefer the upper floors, but as there are no lifts, some travellers may find the stairs daunting.

Our stay was on the 24th and 25th of July 2011 and exactly what we expected.Nice hotel, love the design. Great location. The rooms we're confortable and clean. The energy-saving system to make sure the air-conditionning in your room is not on all day while your out, is quite ingenious. The pool, even though small, is graciously welcomed in the surroundings of Kakadu where salt water crocodiles are your swimming buddies...The lobby is beautiful, adorned with aboriginal art. The staff is friendly and helpful. Room service was efficient. Food is pricey (to be expected) but decent.
There was a fire somewhere in Kakadu one of the nights and we could smell the smoke coming in our room through the doorstep. It was easily fixed with a towel blocking the gap. Don't expect "The Ritz", but in the midst of 20,000 square Km of wetlands, floodplains and woodlands, its confortable enough.
