“September stay”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

The Staff were very pleasant and the grounds were well maintained. The accommodation was not overly impressive, we actually would have preferred to camp than sleep in the rooms. The rooms definitely require an update, soft furnishings are old and worn, bed extremely hard and uncomfortable and the overall decor is very tired. General attention to maintenance issues such as power points and light switches, hot water tap in sink did not work, shower floor extremely slippery (had to warn our elderly parents of this), a toaster would be a nice addition, and a microwave would also be appreciated I am sure for late night travellers. Overall not bad, but we certainly will not be coming back to stay in the accommodation provided.

Although the location is 42kms from Jabiru on the Darwin side (not 8kms as first advised by the website when booking), we felt the resort was in a nice area. Unless you want to stay at the Crocodile hotel in Jabiru which is way more expensive, this was really good value for money. If you havent been to Kakadu before, you need to understand that you need to drive a fair distance to get anywhere even if at Jabiru township, so just be prepared for that. There is so much to see just driving in this area anyway, that the trip seems to go quite fast and there are many places to stop along the way. The resort has all the supplies you need as a base and pretty much means you dont even need to go to Jabiru (which is underwhelming anyway as its just a mining accommodation site). The restaurant was great and food really nice. Try to get breakfast included if you can. Dont expect 5 star here, but the rooms are a good size and comfortable. Please remember you are in the middle of nowhere! Overall a pleasant place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay: clean room, good swiming pool, good food.

Garmin GPS guided us to Jabiru at first and we made 80km extra before we finaly found the place. This is much closer to Darwin than we were expecting - only couple of hours.

Location proved to be 80-90kms from major Kakadu Park attractions and we ended up spending in our car over 3 hrs every day. All tours usually depart from Cooinda lodge which is far away. This was a major drawback as car rental charged us for 500kms over daily limit. Trip turned out to be much more expensive than innitial estimate. Beware.

Also, there is no mobile reception in this area and you need to drive closer to Jabiru (30-40kms).

When we arrived we were told they were having a "boil water advisory"...why was this not something we were informed of before reserving/booking the room? The hotel charged x4 for water for what one would pay at Coles. And if there is something not suitable about the water, they should provide you with free water (besides the one little baby bottle worth in the room). Or at the least WARN you in advance of arriving. The room we had was clean. Breakfast was included with our rate, we would not have paid the $24.95 for it, not worth that. Cheap frozen potato cakes, cheap bread/croissants, poor quality sausage links etc. Some fresh fruit, some canned. Sunday dinner buffet was not worth the price either ($29-). It was edible, but would not say it was good. The grounds were well kept and nice. Staff was tired/warn out in appearance and attitude. Even when we said our "thank-you's" with a big smile for small things we were ignored, no eye contact. They all seemed depressed...maybe sick from drinking the bore water (?).

Pretty good really, clean & nice shower room although a little dodgy with the shower behind the door that you climb into & a plastic curtain, yuck! Lovely soft green towels (& flannels) which made all the difference (but more like hand towels as quite small (I'm 6' but only size 10), nice beds, roomy, could do with herbal teas, none of the Aussie hotels seem to offer this), very quiet fridge (a first on my trip with 6 hotels!!). The restaurant served over-priced meals, the cafe next door over-priced pizzas, but they know you have nowhere else to go so 'shame on you', breakfast was well worth it tho' YES I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Ground floor opposite the pool, rooms @ the back are 'damaged' by those smokers who just can...

We booked the Bed and Breakfast special on the hotels website. Got a good deal with breakfast for two included. Found the resort to be well cared for and trim and tidy. Our accommodation was clean and tidy - had a gecko poo on one of the lampshades but I think that had just happened as it was very fresh. Had no issues with the bathroom or shower, all tidy and clean. Had a very peaceful and uninterrupted sleep so ticked all the boxes for me.
We ate at the restaurant for dinner - shared a pizza between us and it was delicious.
Buffet breakfast the next morning was excellent with a huge choice of cooked food, pastries and cereals.
No complaints, would recommend to others and would definitely stay again if I revisit Kakadu.

The location is beautiful with great walks around the billabong.

The showers are pretty horrendous and my bed had dirt in it when I arrived.

The food there is awful- the buffet breakfast is over priced, and the buffet consists of No-frills tin fruit and some toast. Dinner is pretty disappointing too.

When we arrived the Australian woman working at reception was pretty rude and pretty bad at providing any help on booking tours. We came back later and an American girl working there was infinitely much nicer and more helpful.
That said, you don't have a lot of options up in Kakadu. It's not bad, but it isn't anything to write home about either.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top level, we were on the bottom and it sounded like Elephants were jumping ab...
