Hi everyone, we are planning a trip in NT would like to stay in Darwin Kakadu and travel down .to Alice. Havent been here before at all. We are thinking of also either hiring a car or campervan not sure yet. I guess my questions are how long would you recommend we stay in Darwin Kakadu and Alice Springs. If we get a car we can drive around so not sure what the main attractions are at each of these places we would like to see also if we can fit it in Ayers Rock again we would drive there from Alice. We would like to see some gorgeous, wildlife whatever would be worth seeing. I am trying to work out an itinerary for about two weeks so not sure where it would be best to spend most of our time. Any tips advise as to what you would consider seeing by car we want to see Kakadu also. we are thinking of going in August..

This spectacular gorge and pool was the highlight of our recent trip. It's a bit of a walk in, but don't be put off. The creek and smaller pools on the way in are great to look at (though no swimming there). Wait till you get up to the larger pool.
The george itself is a visual 'wow' when you walk up to it. The pool itself is wide and deep. You can swim right up under the waterfalls (volume depending). The 'cliffs' around the pool can be climbed 'safely' to jump back in. Kids had a ball!!

There's room for a small picnic lunch on the left side of the gorge if you'd like.

The hike in is fantastic, thru one of the nicest riperian monsoonal forests I've seen...Crystal clear, lime green water...sublime...!
PS: bring a mask and snorkel, the fish life is surprisingly rich and diverse...

Nearly didn't go, so glad we did it was a highlight. Awesome swimming pool and the water was warm. The walk in is gorgeous through native forest, the last bit is scrambling over rocks so I would recommend wearing appropriate shoes, I didn't and had to go barefoot...not a good plan, walking boots would have been sensible.

We drove from Kakadu Lodge. Short drive, quite bumpy. Two segments where I had to use the 4wd. Great walk, nice swim. The walk to the top was a bit harder but worth it.
