Owner description: A JOURNEY THROUGH KAKADU's WETLANDSYellow Water Billabong, Kakadu's most famous wetland, is located at the end of Jim Jim Creek, a tributary of the South Alligator River. The river system, which is the largest in Kakadu, contains extensive wetlands that include river channels, floodplains and backwater swamps.WILDLIFEAbout one third of Australia's bird species are represented in Kakadu National Park, with at least 60 species found in the wetlands. Whistling Ducks and Magpie Geese are the most abundant. Our guides run a competition between themselves on who can find "the big five" on one cruise - all five species of kingfisher that can be found in Kakadu. One species is only 2 cm tall. There are plenty of crocodiles in their natural habitat, and buffalo on the floodplains. A hugeJabiru's nest is nearby, and depending on the season, Brolgas can be found dancing. THE EXPERIENCEYellow Water Cruises, winner of the 2011 and 2009 NT Brolga Tourism Award for Major Tourist Attraction operates exclusively on Yellow Water Billabong. It operates year round and provides up to six cruises a day of 90 or 120 minute duration. The sunrise and sunset cruise are very popular and advance bookings are recommended. Often people undertake more than one cruise to see the changes in the wildlife at different times of the day. More should experience a cruise in different seasons. We can never guarantee what will happen on a cruise, but every time is a unique experience. OUR GUIDESAll of our experienced guides are ticketed with the Kakadu Knowledge and are often supported by our Indigenous Employment Program trainees that give fascinating insights into how the Bininj people use the flora and fauna to support their way of life. They are inducted with a 12 week training program. Some guides have been with us for over 8 years. YELLOW WATER FISHINGYellow Water Fishing provides an opportunity to catch the famous barramundi on Kakadu's most famous billabong. These tours are perfect for families or the keen angler and last for 2-3 hours depending on the time of day. Groups of up to 4 people only. Bookings essential. Yellow Water Cruises are the best way to experience the wetlands of Kakadu and it will be an experience remembered for a lifetime.

Today we went on an ATT kings kakadu tour from darwin and this cruise was included , What can I say it was the highlight of our day !! I'm really not so keen on birds and plants but our guide Ruben made it all so interesting ! We loved the crocs we seen and all the information Ruben had to tell us. It's great to see a young man so proud of his heritage and culture ! Ruben is really an asset to your company and we look forward to coming again !

“Dont miss this”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We 2 couples only had a 2 wd drive car so could not see any of the 4wd stuff, not that we had the time or inclination to do so as there is so many other things to do in Kakadu INCL the Sunset Yellow Water Cruise, it was magnificient heaps of crocks ,big ones little ones fighting amounst themselves etc, terrific, the bird life wonderfulI was a bit sorry I did not have one of those expensive high speed cameras to capture the many flights of birds, the different plant life and floating lilies as per the photos above, great and the sunset photos we took were about the best all of us (agreed) took were just spectavular, even the tour guide , who was quite funny, took many photos himself, it went over the alloted 2 hrs , i think because of the fantastic sunset, all in all the highlight of Kakadu and a wonderful memory to treasure.

“A fantastic start to the day”
Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

We did the 6.30am cruise and were delighted with the range of animal and especially bird life we saw. Our guide was very knowledgable about the Aboriginal customs, bush tucker and the changes from season to season and manoeuvred the boat so that everyone had plenty of opportunity to take photographs. Out on the water it was incredibly peaceful and seeing the wildlife, especially the saltwater crocodiles, in their natural habitat was very special. We highly recommend this tour.

“Magical sunset cruise”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

The scenery, light and wildlife made this a special time. Also being a c5pm start you are away from the coach party throng. Being in the 'dry' the animals/birds were all around. Eagles, Kingfishers and crocs amongst many others.

“A fabulous experience with a great friendly guide”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

This 2 hour cruise was great. The guide was perfect - he had just the right combination of really interesting information, with a lovely quiet, humorous personality. The boat was comfortable and the scenery amazing. There are gorgeous birds, flowers and spectacular views and of course lots of crocs. It was a great well run trip. and well worth doing to see and experience the area from the water, and learn a bit more about the people from the area.
