“Doggie heaven, beach and trees!”
Reviewed February 17, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

With only 48 hours notice from hubbies work, given a weeks holiday in February! Having had 3 previous winter breaks Oct and Dec, decided being at the isle of whithorn might not be a good idea (ice cold wind) so decided to pick garlieston because of the shelter from the trees. The good thing about winter breaks it gives the chance to try out properties that due to cost would not be affordable. We were offered a very good price for shore cottage on the galloway house estate at garlieston, dumfries and Galloway. Stunning! Stunning location! So very perfect for doggie people! I could ramble on for hours about this place but really just see the pics and that beach, rigg bay, and the estate gardens are the actual location of this holiday home. No driving to the dog walk, just fall out of bed and out the front door! My husband really enjoyed having full on WiFi, something sadly missing in many holiday rentals. Only 24inch tv, another p e t hate, but we now travel with a 40 inch mainly due to me having cataracts in both eyes. The cottage had a brilliant wood burner and lots of free wood, a good shower and two loos, a king size comfy bed and a very well stocked kitchen. Also a big fenced in rear garden for the dogs.(inside a walled garden/orchard) booking with Alex was easy and straight forward. Book it now before I regret telling you about another of my secrets!!!!!!! I am desperate to go back xxx

“A little bit of Heaven”
Reviewed July 29, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We booked a last minute Sunday to Friday stay at the cottage, we were blessed with excellent weather. The beach is literally 50 yards from the cottage, the cottage has everything you could possibly need, the gardens are lovely to walk around. There are plenty of walks, you can walk to Garlieston along the shore front its about 1 and a half miles and beautiful scenery. The cove is shallow, great for swimming and paddling, it really is a little haven away from it all. It was quite a shock to go back to civilization.

“Just perfect!”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Spent a wonderful four days at Shore Cottage. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Rigg Bay is stunning - sat at the picnic table with a coffee, watching the sun come up was a special moment! Would highly recommend a trip to the Isle of Whithorn (the Steam Packet Inn is well worth a visit) and St Ninian's Cave.

“Getting away from it all in a lovely part of the country”
Reviewed February 27, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Husband and I rented this estate cottage for a three night weekend stay and it was the perfect setting, especially as we like to get away from the crowds and get outdoors walking . The house itself had all we needed and was nicely decorated and furnished. A great little woodburning stove in the living room threw out LOTS of heat but it was still cosy enough in the house without it being on. We actually spent most of our time sitting in the kitchen which is a really good size for a smaller house and very well equipped. The shore is very close to the house, separated only by a strip of woodland, which was good...you can still glimpse the sea through the trees but they offered the house additional protection from the February winds! It took less than a minute to walk from the house to the shore of a lovely deserted bay. The recent storms had swept some interesting stuff ashore so we spent lots of hours beachcombing and walking the coastal paths. It's a great historical area too - plenty of places of interest, although Garlieston village was pretty much locked down for the winter, so a ten minute drive took us to Isle of Whithorn where we had a couple of very tasty meals at the Steampacket Inn. Bigger towns of Wigtown, Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas all within driving distance so plenty of places to explore further afield too. Highlight of the weekend was watching 3 deer from the kitchen window nibbling away in the front garden! Sadly, no otter or red squirrel sightings! Maybe next time!

We arrived after a bit of an adventure to to freek weather, snow drifts up to 12ft. Alex kept us informed and on arrival was so helpful and had the wood burning stove on. The cottage is bright sunny airy and comfortable. We have 2 dogs and the area is so good for walking. The beach and woodland walks are great. We will definatley be back.

“The most lovely setting but pricey”

This has got to be one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland. It is a place where time has stood still and gives a lovely relaxing holiday. Rigg Bay which is a one minute walk from Shore Cottage is amazing as are the walks all around.
Shore Cottage is nice and clean. Our main grumble is the price. It is expensive for two people and if more than two are staying a supplement is added. There is one bedroom and additional guests have to sleep on the sofa bed which is ok if you all want to go to sleep at the same time and you don't mind the hassle of putting a bed up and down especially when you are paying a lot of money.
For us we felt it was a case of deciding if the location is worth the amount of money for the cottage as there are much better deals to be had in terms of price and size of accommodation. Not sure if we would book again mainly because of the price.
