“All that a family could ask for from a pub.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

We had Sunday lunch here recently with our 3 boys (inc 1 toddler). The location is idyllic, the pub itself welcoming and cosy - at least 2 woodburners going - the beer excellent and the Sunday Lunch, using local produce, was very good and reasonably priced. (Would maybe have given 5 stars if not for slightly overdone potatoes and yorkshire pudding). It was certainly good enough for 3 hungry boys to wolf down. The staff were welcoming, polite, friendly and attentive. All in all we had a delightful and very relaxed meal - what more could "outnumbered" parents ask for?

It was a dull rainy Bank Holiday Monday! So what's new, you cry. The only option was to find a comfy country pub away from the crowds and some at least half-decent food so as to while away the hours. We last visited this pub on Mothering Sunday and we raved about the restaurant on that occasion. Yesterday was even better if anything. We were quite late arriving and it was the village fete day as well.Parking was at a premium all over the village and we almost drove by. What a relief that we didn't. The place was packed and the busy but superlatively attentive staff in the bar immediately advised us to "hover over that table in the window" who were due to pay up and go. This we duly did with discretion and a pint of Bath Ales Gem for me and a glass of wine for the wife. We only wanted a snack. No worries - rare roast beef sandwich, cheddar and cider chutney sandwich and a dish of skinny chips soon arrived delivered by a charming female chef. It was of a very high quality indeed and the bread home-baked. The bar was humming and there were families and people from all walks of life all mixing together beautifully. This place has justified its place within the top three best pubs in Somerset (according to us, of course but then we are the experts after all!). Seriously though, we are so lucky to have so many great country pubs within our part of the county. The Three Horseshoes has a natural ambiance, quality presentation of fixtures and fittings and superb food and beverage. The staff are professionally trained but come over with an air of friendliness and genuine concern over the job they are doing. First class again.

My wife and I, both in our 60's, had 2 nights at the three horseshoes 22nd and 23rd August. Its a lovely pub, very welcoming. We were made to feel at home straight away. The Breakfasts and dinner were very good indeed ( local produce ) and not expensive. Service was very good and the room spotless and very comfortable. We noticed that the children of other customers staying in and around Batcombe were also made very welcome. The staff were attentive, welcoming and genuinely pleased to have you staying there. Nothing was too much trouble. One of the nicest B & B's we've stayed in. Nice garden area too.

We visited this pub today with our two young sons and our young dog. We got a warm welcome and there were games and colouring books and other books available to occupy them. The food was really lovely, the staff were attentive and it was a generally very nice experience. They have a nice beer garden to eat in if you want to have lunch outside and, if you walk a little way down the road, there is a lovely little park for the kids to play in. If you are trying to decide whether to go, I would say make the trip, it's worth it.

My partner and I visited a couple of weeks ago and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our room (1) was spotlessly clean, as was our bathroom. The refreshments in the room were of high quality (Clipper Tea, fresh coffee in a cafetiere, bottled water) and there was a television on the wall with freeview. The bed was extremely comfortable too!Though there is no shower (not a problem) the bath was fine.
We booked a table for two for our evening meal and chose to sit in the patio area of their gorgeous garden. The food was delicious using quality ingredients and an imaginative menu. We particularly enjoyed the chicken, mushroom and saffron pie which was a stroke of genius!! I'd love the recipe ;-)
Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. We recommend it to everyone as reasonably priced accommodation with high quality features. Much better value money than I could find elsewhere.
PS: Breakfast was also delicious, we'd come back just for that!

Read recent reviews on TripAdvisor and thought we would visit for lunch. As we live close by, we often came to the hotel (about 7 years ago) when the food and service were superb, but had been disappointed on more recent visits. We arrived just after midday and the pub was empty. We ordered 2 pints of Batcombe while appraising the menu, and decided on spring rolls as a starter for us both. These were followed by a sirloin steak and chips for my husband, and local shot pigeon with bacon and salad for myself. The steak was unimpressive which is putting it politely but at least the chips were good. However, the pigeon was tough, the bacon was chopped so small it was almost impossible to find, and mostly the plate was filled with lettuce, no other salad ingredient in sight. Won't be visiting again soon.

A quick response just to apologise for your bad experience here. We often are praised on the steaks, sourced from a good quality butcher who only uses local farms. We do not want to complicate any dish so Steak and homemade fat chips, cherry vine tomatoes with salad and that is that. The pigeons were shot the day before and honestly i think they needed to hang for another day or two, the dish does need working on - instead of bits perhaps slightly larger as lardons. I hope you enjoyed other parts of the pub - service etc but one out of five might be a bit harsh.

I have been visiting the local area for many years now with my parents living just a short distance away. Having eaten there on a previous visit I thought I should give the B&B a try and I can not begin to tell you how happy I am! On arrival I was greeted by the very friendly owner Kavendrah who was more than welcoming and happy to assist with carrying my bags to the room.

I stayed in room 1 which was a nice and well presented room with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom lacked a shower though made up for this with a large bath.

In the evening my family came and we had no complaints over the food and the service was fantastic with the staff only too happy to help with all dietary requirements. The menu was extensive, offering ingredients sourced from the local area and a good selection of local ales and ciders to accompany the meal.

I would highly recommend a stay if you are in the local area.
