“Well worth the visit, beautiful setting, views, and fascinating tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

We took the suggestion of previous TripAdvisor visitors and decided to stop here while in the Siena area; myself, my husband, and our 13-year-old. We were so glad we did, and my daughter joins us in that. There was no one else there at the moment, though that wouldn't have diminished it; the tour was excellent: a fair amount of the tour referred to a multi-lingual script which was a perfectly good way to proceed, and the information was fascinating; and we were able to ask questions and get answers. We walked up the many levels (each one's purpose explained) of the tower to a very beautiful view of the ancient town and the hills with other castles in the distance. The people who were in charge of the place were very kind and are doing a great thing in promoting the castle's restoration. We highly recommend it.

“Beautiful castle and magnificent tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

La Rocca is a beautiful, medieval castle in the Tuscan country side. It's not very touristic, which I find appealing. The best part about the visit, was that it's a guided tour. Our guide was amazing! Her English wasn't great, but she explained everything nicely and made a lot of gestures to support her story. Within the fort, there was a beautiful exhibition of modern installations. All of that for only 5€pp! I really recommand this!

“An unexpected jewel on the ancient roads”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

Staggia is a very small town on the Cassia road north of Siena. Many people goes visiting Monteriggioni and forget stopping here, where a visit to the castle (well restored) and the old walls is very worthy. The castle has a very interesting story, its origins date back in 9th century and going on with several changes - being in between Siena and Florence rivalry - until 15th century. The castle has been very well restored, we had a 1hr visit with guide (can be up to 2 hours) explaining history, architecture, usage of the castle and its different rooms. Rooms host also art exhibitions well immersed in the castle environment. From the walls and the tower, the view of the old town surrounded by 14th century walls and the other towers and castles in surrounding hills is definitely worth a stop. Park outside the town (north near the gas station) and walk 5 min to the castle. 5€ each.

“Wonderfull Castle close to Monteriggioni”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

On one of the Pilgrims routes in Chianti, you will find a really well conserved Castle which is worth visiting. A guide will explain and show all of the particularities of the castle. How and when it was constructed and the influence of the various owners on the overall architecture.

In the different rooms of the complex an exhibition was showcasing some local artists with monumental sculptures. Worth the visit !
