Shin Sane Guesthouse is a family-run place to hang-out in Mae salong, and watch local Chinese/Thai/Hill-tribe life, as it goes on all around you ! This is, unlike so many popular tourist-destinations, the real thing, and at low prices for its admittedly simple-but-acceptable facilities.

The bungalows are excellent value-for-money, the basic-rooms upstairs in the original building very cheap, the restaurant limited-menu but healthy with lots of veggies, the views simply stunning, the whole place took me back to my backpacker/hostelling-days !

Love it !

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a bungalow in the garden with en-suite & cable-TV

One of the best budget options I've stayed in. Very helpful with hill tribe info. Great location. Very difficult to tear yourself away from Mae Salong. The area drips history. Try to read about it before you go, or at least while you're there. Really adds to the quality of your visit. Be very prepared to head off the stall holders. They probably all have marketing degrees from Chulalongkorn University!!!

The rooms were built 40 year ago and it looks like it. Don't expect much otherwise the locatioon and price is great $9US for a bungalow cant beat that! !! When we were there for two days we did NOTHING AT ALL. Bad weather. It was raining too much and at 4pm it all fogged up!!!

We booked a bungalow with bathroom on the recommendation of trip advisor customer. Because we were visiting during the tea festival the price had risen from 300 to 800 . We were shown to something resembling my allotment shed with two mattresses on top of each other on the floor and a single bed, yes there was a bathroom. Not happy with what we were shown we had little choice but to stay because it was a long way back down the mountain road. We went to get something to eat and our return had no light in the room, a man came to try to fix it, what a fiasco! We were then given emergency lighting which should give us 6 hours, It went off after 10 minutes. The only light was in the bathroom and the glow of the TV. On closer inspection the next morning we were disturbed to see how grubby the place was with even a hole in the wooden floor. The grounds were messy and very smelly. We still had to pay the 800 but at least the toilet had been clean! definitely not on our list of places to stay.
