Greenhill Lodge in beautiful New Zealand was a highlight of our trip. It's a lovely home with beautiful gardens, pool and green rolling pastures all around. John and Christine are gracious hosts who will go that extra bit to make your stay very special. ( like driving you into town to buy cheese and wine for a lovely lunch on the terrace at Greenhill).
Beautiful rooms, great amenities, perfectly cooked dinners and breakfasts make it truly a five star experience.
We would be back monthly if not for that pesky 17 hour flight!!

Although somewhat remote and GPS was definitely needed to find this lovely property, it was one of our favorite places in New Zealand. Turning onto the private gravel drive we drove up a hill and came upon the most beautiful Queen Ann style manor house at the top with a circular drive and a beautiful fountain in the center. The grounds were magnificent and the house so charming. We were greeted at the beautiful covered porch by the owners John and Christine and were shown to our room. It was a large lodge suite with a sitting room, bedroom, and TWO bathrooms. We went out both nights we were at Greenhill to restaurants (although had appetizers and drinks in the lodge drawing room) and John was kind enough to drive us to both (we took taxis back to the lodge). Each morning we followed the smell and sound of sizzling bacon that John was cooking to the beautiful dining room where we were served a fabulous breakfast. Christine makes most of the food that included lemon curd, preserves, yogurt with honey and cinnamon, granola, and eggs prepared as we liked. We even got to know the family dog, Nessie. It was hard to leave this amazing place and we thank John, Christine, AND Nessie for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: I believe there are only 4 rooms in the main house and the suite is the largest.

Stayed 2 nights, we didn't want to leave. The attention to detail in second to none. Our suite had everything you could desire with 2 bathrooms & a beautiful terrace overlooking breathtaking countryside. Our hosts John & Christine couldn't do enough for us and we felt very spoilt. Our return to New Zealand will have to include a return trip to this incredible Lodge.

This is a superb Lodge that has been beautifully decorated with style and comfort. Our room was large with every amenity including delicious home made slices made by Christine with our tea and coffee making facilities. The ensuite was beautiful with robes and all the highest quality fittings. Our host John's many years in the hotel industry shows through with his attention to high quality service and detail. Beautiful breakfasts with lots of fresh fruit and eggs any way you like. The grounds and surroundings are so beautiful we were sad to leave. Highly recommend as a place to stay when touring the Hawkes Bay region, great to come back to at the end of a busy day. John gave us lots of ideas for places to visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful.

Dear Pamela B
Thank you very much for your lovely comments on your recent stay at Greenhill Lodge. We very much enjoyed being your hosts for your Hawke's Bay holiday and sharing our tips on what to see and do just like the locals. We are very fortunate to have so much fresh produce either from our garden and orchards or from local growers that makes breakfast such a delight as well as our own free range hens.
We are both very grateful to you for taking the time to write such a lovely review.
kind regards

A big thanks to John and Christine for a truly memorable stay.

First time in NZ and really appreciated the wonderful hospitality, support and comfort that we experienced whilst staying at Greenhill.

We stayed in the cottage which is in the grounds so whilst you have access to all areas of the lodge on top of that you have the benefit of being in stand alone accommodation with the additional benefit of a kitchen and lovely living room. Whilst the weather was excellent we did also have lovely fires in the evening.

John is highly perceptive and very attuned to what his guests are interested in - the itinerary he put together for our 5 day stay was absolutely spot on to what we wanted to do and appreciated all his wisdom and knowledge of the area.

Christine is a wonderful hostess and her cooking is delicious - of particular note for me was her passion with apricot cake that we devoured every day on returning from our travels

The overall ambience of the lodge, location to the area also makes it a definite need for a return visit - thank you for making our stay so wonderful
