“Inventive food”

Kent's place has been our first stop when we visit Hawkes Bay: it is clever, inventive, super super fresh (we've seen the bag of kina arrive at the back door, on our plates 10 minutes later) and lovely to look at. Sometimes it makes you think, but it's rare that a dish doesn't work. The staff are smart and helpful, the place is always buzzing, Kent always sends out extra plates if he decides you need to try this. We only wish he was closer to home.

“Soooo Over Rated”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

So when we arrived we asked to sit outside. This was far to difficult for the grumpy and arrogant waiter who said as much.

We were then left to out own devices for far to long as he wandered off to chat to other staff and do a thousand things other than attend to us.

That set the sad tone, and it did not improve.

The entree was fair but everyones mains was a massive disappointment. Over priced with poor quality ingredients and a sad attempt at culinary flair with presentation.

Won't be back.

“Superb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

I have eaten at many restaurants but this is definately up with the best. We spent lunch time sitting outside in the sunny courtyard with friends enjoying the innovative and delicious food. Stunning really is the word that comes to mind. Everything was very fresh and my salmon entree and nicoise salad main were not only a joy to look at, they were absolutely delicious. My salad was a voyage of discovery and I just didn't want it to end! I had coffee and truffles to finish and the truffles were extraordinary. Everyone is our group was delighted with their meal and I can't wait to get back there sometime in the future.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

This is the first time that I have given a restaurant 5 out of 5 which says it all. I had lunch here with family who live locally. The building is attractive offering indoor and outdoor seating. There are enough tables but not so many that it feels crowded even though it was more or less full. There are also enough staff who are charming, helpful and competent. The menu is relatively small with 4 different dishes each for fish, meat and vegetarian (a bonus given that vegos are often lucky to get one dull dish on a menu). The menu document looked "temporary" suggesting that it changes frequently. I suspect that it does so to accommodate what is available fresh that day. The food was simply outstanding. Every plate was beautifully presented - a work of art in many cases - and the flavours were beautifully matched. Between us we had dishes of grouper, pulled pork and lamb saddle - all superb. Even my cheese course was lovely - an organic danbo served with oat cakes and a drizzle of honey. Nothing could be faulted, even the prices which were surprisingly reasonable for the quality of food. I travel and eat all over the world and Ten Twenty Four is one of the better restaurants that I have visited in the last few years. Well done!

“Not only beautifull but oh sooo gooood!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

This was one of our favourite stops on our annual trip out to NZ, which is difficult to say as it’s a country with such high standards when it comes to cuisine, probably due to outstanding quality of the produce that is used.

Have experienced some of the other Kent Baddeley’s places over the years but this one is really spectacular. The food is fantastic, a mix of Mediterranean cuisine with Fusion. I like to call it a mix of Old & New World, which is really what New Zealand does best and KB is a master chef in this department!
Wines are not to be forgotten as they are large part of the meal and here again NZ does not have to be envious of the old country as they often surpass it.

We will definitely return when on that side of the pond…
