“Clean and tidy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

Clean, tidy and comfortable. Good service from the very pleasant hosts and the cooked breakfast was very nice. This is not a brand new motel so don't expect brand new facilities. This was our second stay and we will stay again when in Hastings.

Good basic motel. A bit tired but value for money. Not 5 star but hosts gave excellent service. I will go back when next in Hastings. Just on the edge of town made it an easy walk to the shops. Our unit had two bedrooms and full kitchen facilities which was ideal.

Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Room was dated, cold and uninviting with breeze block walls and wind blowing in the gaps and the smell of past smoking was off putting- 1970,s panel heater and the stained carpet needs to go. Hole in the wall kitchenette was a first us and don't count on having much more than toast, a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee in the studios. You have to wash dishes in the bathroom which is not really acceptable. Bed was on rollers so it moved around a lot. I guess in the end at $105 a night you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your review. We have an ongoing maintenance plan for our motel which was built in the 70's. We don't expect our guests to wash dishes in the bathroom and always take them to the motel kitchen when servicing the unit. We advertise tea & toast facilities only in our studios

Thanks Jan & Bruce for another wonderful stay. I am always impressed by your level of service and how you go out of your way to make my stays enjoyable. I stay at many places and even if the rooms are 5 star, it doesn't count for much if the hosts don't give the service. You do. Keep it up.

Had had a vey stressful and tiring day not intending to stay in Hastings but ended up we did This was the first motel we found and we were too tired to look further and had left our motel book at home. The room was VERY dated with a tiny cupboard for tea & toast, and carpet yech!! We kept our shoes on! With very little effort the place could be made to look very nice - -
Need to take more effort on the exterior as well A daily sweep outside the units and a pick up of cigarette butts in seating area ( put a bucket of sand for butts ) and some gardening would improve the overall exterior.

As an older couple are running this motel maybe some outside help to bring it up to speed would help .

Beds too soft and worn out - son (mid 20s rolled out of the single bed as the mattress went down on one side Broken loo cistern, broken soap dispenser nasty things on bedcovers WHO IS DOING ROOM CHECKS!!!!

As said the hosts made up for the fact that this place is very tired . We stayed at the Solway Copthorne later in this trip admittedly at an arranged rate that was similar to Elmore Lodge and in comparison got much better value for money

I can not count the number of hotels I have stayed at, including B&B's, and cannot recall nicer hosts. Bruce and Jan do a phenomenal job of making you feel at home.

In fairness it makes up for a dated hotel. If you are staying for more than a night it is worthwhile simply because these people are so nice. I do hope they are able to reinvest some of the funds into some improvements as it could be fantastic.

We were passing through Hastings and stayed for one night. Thought this one looked tidy and private from the road so stopped in. Great hosts, but we felt this was a very tired old motel which looked like nothing had been upgraded for 30 years. Even the bed seemed very tired. A little over priced for what it was unfortunately.
