We spent a week at Elmore Lodge. This motel delivers everything it promises...conveniently located, reasonably priced, and we were very comfortable there. We found the hosts exceptionally nice...we were warmly welcomed and well looked after throughout our stay. We slept well all week and it was great having enough space to have family around to visit. Just down the road there is a variety of great takeaway food outlets. We are already plotting our next visit to The Bay and will definitely stay at Elmore Lodge Motel again.

It's very hard to find a single unit that has the comfortable capacity to accommodate 5 to 6 adults. Most Motels are now small and pokey with their emphasis on Studio type units. We were in town with our Targa Race Car and the accompaning support team, and all of our crew found the Elmore Lodge accomodation to be more than satisfactory for our purposes. We all found our beds to be really soft and comfortable and consequently, a great nights sleep. Yes, it might be a little dated and need a freshen up, but we've seen much, much, much worse. Great car parking which is not visible from the road (a plus when you've got a valuable muscle car that needs to be hidden from 'undesirables' that inevitably haunt every community). Overall, you get what you pay for and we felt that this was great value. Thanks to Bruce and Jan, .... We'll be back.

I stay in motels all over the North Island and find Elmore to be priced well and a great place to stay.
Bruce and Jan are very friendly and always willing to do anything to help and make your stay more comfortable. I stay here every 6-8 weeks and reccommend it for a economical & handy place to stay. Local take aways just down the road, restaurants & supermarket a short drive away. If visiting someone in hospital - there is no better place, it is only across the road. Clean & comfortable rooms, you have to try!

Had to stay here whilst in Hastings on business - would never stay here again! Only good point was that the guy who checked me in was quite friendly.

The room was cold, tired and grubby. The minimalist approach from the 1970s (or whenever the place was built) has not stood the test of time well. Bare breezeblock walls, shabby marked furniture and 'sticky' carpet put me off when I first arrived, and it went downhill from there.

The bathroom was a bit grubby (black ring of gunge around the plughole, damaged soap dispenser, bugs dead in the shower tray...).

The heater was pathetic - yes it was a very cold night but a small panel heater was never going to match the chill from the bare walls, with the gap under the door letting the cold air in.

The bed also wasn't great - a bit soft for my liking, but maybe would have been ok for others who like a softer bed. I was surprised at the sheets - my guess would be polycotton as they didn't feel like cotton.

There was a distinct lack of soundproofing between the rooms. That bare brick wall again... when the neighbour moved in next door I heard everything of their stay, from plugging their heater in, to their use of the loo, to their hacking of phlegm every few minutes. There was also a fair amount of traffic noise, as the motel is on the Omahu Road, which is busy all hours. Take earplugs would be my advice if you have to stay here.

Overall a miserable stay in a horrible, small, dated room. You can find far better locally - try somewhere else. Omahu Lodge is great and a world away from this motel in comfort, class and cleanliness/modernity.

Room Tip: Try another motel!

Stayed 3 nights after joining wife who was in Hastings on business. The room was clean enough and the bed comfortable but the furnishings and fittings are well past their useful life. The whole room is depressing and needs redecorating. The carpet was filthy and needs replacing. I appreciate that it cannot be shampooed every day and guests walk over it in outdoor shoes (we don't) but this carpet needs to go. My wife was given a date expired carton of milk for the room on check in. I don't know whether this milk was responsible for her subsequent upset stomach. I didn't have any of the milk and was fine. She finished the carton (before noticing the expired date) and spent most of the night in the toilet. Draw your own conclusions. Whilst Mr Nicol is a very pleasant man that was not the impression I had of Mrs Nicol who was brusque, curt and unsmiling when addressing my wife. I don't know whether the fact that my wife is Chinese had anything to do with Mrs Nicol's attitude. Wife charged $6.90 for making two short local phone calls from the room. Not worth $115 a night and definitely will never stay here again.

Room Tip: Go to the Omahu Lodge motel just down the road

We stayed here for 3 nights after Christmas, to visit some relatives nearby. Shops & take-aways were a very short walk away; petrol stations and supermarkets a bit further and the main shopping centre maybe 2km away.
Jan and Bruce Nicol run the place and just couldn't have been kinder and more helpful.
Just 16 rooms, with safe, off-street parking and a small pool. The rooms had everything you might expect - and more.
We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: If you don't even want to self-cater for breakfast, Jan and Bruce will even provide that; just c...
