Owner description: Nestled in a beautiful setting amid the hills of Paroa Bay near Russell, Paroa Bay Winery is a new family owned boutique vineyard combining luxury accommodation and traditional handmade, sustainable wines. We employ traditional techniques of viticulture and dry grown vines in the hope of creating distinctive handcrafted wines of character in low yields, reflecting the white clay soils and warm climate of the Bay of Islands. On an estate covering 24 hectares of rolling hills, we currently have just 4.5 hectares of planted vines including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. This private, world-class retreat offers a safe, clean, green refuge and is nestled amongst some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the world, including seven hectares of gardens, lavish accommodation and extensive recreational facilities spanning along a sweeping coastline. Tarapunga is an exciting luxury residence, finished to the highest standard, which ensures every indulgence is catered for. Contemporary interiors and artwork, home theatre, gymnasium and gourmet kitchens provide in-home recreation, while outdoor the 17m infinity heated pool and spa, sauna and large entertaining decks capture the astounding views across the Bay of Islands. The vineyard cottage is a two bedroom / two bathroom (with additional optional bedroom) house set among the peaceful rolling hills of Paroa Bay and a 10 minute stroll to a secluded beach. Visitors can enjoy strolls surrounded by acres of landscaped gardens, native trees, birds and vineyards and enjoy all the comforts of this first class home. The newly refurbished cottage offers 2 full bathroom suites, a powder room, an open fireplace in the main lounge leading to covered terraces with a private swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and BBQ.

We visited the PAROA BAY winery Cellar Door today about lunchtime.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed tasting some of their wines.
We then bought a bottle of their admirable Sauvignon Blanc and sat outside, sipping it, while eating our sandwiches - another glorious day in Russell and undoubtedly the best picnic ever

Today we made our first visit to the winery and were so impressed. Tasted some beautiful wines and really enjoyed the ambience and the tranquility of the property. Will certainly go back very soon with other friends, and enjoy the area in full. Had seen advertisements locally for the winery but did not realize it was so easily accessible from Russell. We visited Paroa Bay Winery and we spent very pleasant few hours in the wonderful surroundings. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable not only about the wineyard but also the surrounding area. We will be back for the wine, for the harvesting and for a picnic.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at paroa bay. We stayed in the vineyard cottage, which had great views over the vineyard, and we had family staying in Tarapunga, the views from which are simply beyond beautiful!

Originally we had planned to travel all over New Zealand, but the facilites were so great we spent most of the time at the winery! The boat was a particular highlight, we managed to catch a lot of fish for dinner and there are dolphins and penguins in the water! (There's dolphin tours leaving from Russell, if you just follow them they'll usually lead you to the dolphins)

A truly magical holiday that I would very much like to experience again

Firstly the views are breath taking everywhere you look. We stayed in the vineyard cottage, which had a pool and sauna with an amazing view and top facilities internally. Had great fun fishing on the boat (where we saw a couple of sharks and baby penguins), running like a looney round the grounds, and the attempting to play tennis. The managers were extremely friendly and helped with any queries instantly. Have come back feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Can't wait to visit again. oo and tasty tasty vino. Thank youu.
