“culinary delights served with a smile”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2014

The great consistency of the food as well as the impeccable service at The Duke makes this establishment my favorite place whenever passing through the Bay of Islands. The Forest Mushroom Soup was exquisite as was the Hapuka & Tiger Prawn Risotto. Romantic tables outside, vibrant(perhaps a little loud) inside. It's never failed my friends I've referred here.

“Fabulous meal again - thanks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2014

Dining with friends, on speaking to the head chef he recommended that the special of the day the slow cooked sirloin steak was that favourite of the night, and we had better - OMG!! How right the head chef was - thanks Daniel...

For the starter a Tuna Tartare was my option, then the sirloin and to follow up with the lime tart - simply stunning once again.

Can highly recommend a nights relaxing with friends, pop in early and sit in front of the large fire, warm the hands and toes - grab a glass of red and settle in for the night!

“Our staff 'Xmas celebration'”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2014 via mobile

As we are too busy in tourist season to take time off for fun stuff we finally got to celebrate Xmas and another good business year with lunch at the Duke. Plates of shared nibbles to start and between the five of us two choices of mains that were superb. My big eye tuna tatare was exquisite and melted in the mouth, others had the pasta dish and all left very happy and replete. A couple of wines by the glass and then back to work.
Service was prompt and efficient.

“Superb food in a fabulous location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2014

We took the ferry from Paihia on recommendation of our B&B hosts. It was a Saturday, so we made a booking, which was essential even in the shoulder season. Had a table on the patio, overlooking the bay. There was non-intrusive live music from a quite talented guitarist/singer. The service was stunningly good and the food was to die for. The mushroom soup with truffles is simply unbelievable, and the slow-cooked lamb incredible. They claim to have been serving food and drink to many generations of ruffians and scoundrels. The practice shows.

“Superb all round”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2014 via mobile

Stayed with 2 teens - 2 rooms booked. A std and one opening onto shared deck. Spotless, comfy bed and nice linen. Dinner was outstanding and the continental bfast in dining room covered everyones needs- nice touch with the single coffee plungers. Definately be back.
