“What a welcome!”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

A long drive from Auckland and we arrived in beautiful Russell. Bellrock has a prime location with stunning views over the water, and is nestled in mature gardens. Lorraine told us that they had completely renovated the property and what a marvellous job they have done. The rooms are a very generous size with kitchenette, huge comfortable bed and private terrasse with sea views. Lorraine and Peiter are South African and their lounge for the guests was brimming with African artefacts, well stocked bar, and barbeque on the shaded terrace. However, the piece de resistance for us was their welcome and hospitality. Jim wanted to watch the T20 cricket match between England and New Zealand. Our late arrival meant we didn't have time to go and get anything to eat and also watch the match. Lorraine settled us down with glasses of wine and beer, then went and fetched us delicious fish and chips, and Peiter discussed the cricket with Jim. Not many landladies would put themselves out and do that - she is special. We opted for the B&B format and enjoyed delicious breakfasts (including home made muesli) and discussed out plans for the day. We would certainly recommend this to other travels to Russell which, by the way, is much nicer than Pahia.

Room Tip: All rooms brilliant.

What a great review - thanks. We realize that everyone has a busy and often stressfull life and that holidays need to be special - so we just try our best to help them have a relaxed and enjoyable stay in Russell. thank you very much for mentioning that Russell is a great place, most people seem to think you must stay in Paihia to do all the exciting things that can be done in the area and they do not know that you can do the same things in Russell which is not so commercial and is a lovely village away from the huge crowds found in Paihia.

We were recommended Bellrock Lodge by the owners of a motel in Paihia where we had been staying. I am so glad we listened. Bellrock Lodge was just perfect. Our hosts Peter and Lorraine were just delightful and on our first night welcomed us into their living room for pre-dinner snacks and wine before we went into the village for a meal. Throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble.

The accommodation is high quality, very clean and well appointed with gorgeous views over Russell.

We would definitely stay at Bellrock again without hesitation.

The views are to die for! From the balcony you are treated to a picture postcard view of Russell. The accommodation is well designed, quality furnished and provisioned, making for a very comfortable and delightful stay. Lorraine & Peter have been very thoughtful with the services and provisions they make available to their guests. They are delightful hosts who truly care about their guests experience of Russell.. Bellrock Lodge is a real gem and I highly recommend it as the place to stay in Russell.

Well that's what Russell was once called! I call it home from home with the caring, friendly and nothing is too much trouble approach of Peter and Lorraine. A lovely setting up on the hill, with beautiful views over the bay. A meet and greet others get together, unusual for B&B, was a nice addition. Food excellent. Room cosy and all you require, with access to free wifi and laundry. This is the place to stay. Thanks to you both .... and we did visit Tane Mahuta!

Bellrock Lodge is a true star. Great location within easy walking distance of the centre and beaches; luxuriously appointed rooms with stunning views; and amazing hosts. Peter and Lorraine are warmly welcoming and cannot do enough for you. There are the delightful drinks and nibbles, mentioned by others; they will make bookings for you for activities; lend you their Sat Nav and they even provided a camera memory card when mine ran out. They have this hosting stuff down to a fine art. Its a bit more expensive than some B and Bs we stayed at on our trip, particularly as breakfast is not included in the room price, but it won't stop us going back!

Thank you for your lovely review. Your title "Enraptured in Russell" is great because it shows that you were happy not just with Bellrock but with Russell as a whole. Not many people realise how facinating Russell is and that they can be kept busy here for a number of days as your were on your 4 day stay. You made great use of the activities available from Russell - even sharing your catch with us. Glad to hear that you would like to visit us again, as we love talking to guests who have been to and loved our birth country South Africa. You mentioned that our rates were a bit steep (especially concidering the fact that the rates do not included breakfast)- so we would like to say a few words on this topic. We do not like to compare Bellrock with the other B & B's in Russell, as each one has something unique and special about it. However we are $400 per day cheaper than the other 5 Star B & B in Russell, and cheaper than some 4 Star B & B's here. When we first started out, breakfast was included in our rates, but at the request of a number of guests who only have a slice or two of toast normally and found our breakfast far to substantial, we decided to give our guests the option of our breakfasts or making their own in their fully equipped kitchenetts in their units. The fact that you mentioned you would like to stay here again, is a great compliment - thank you.

We toured the North North section of New Zealand for a month, staying at B & B's along the way. Bellrock Lodge was one of the greatest Lodge's that we found. We stayed 2 nights and were welcomed by Lorraine so dearly, she hosted a cocktail hour with oysters and drinks for all the guests that weekend. Bellrock Lodge offers a shared living room for guests to relax and mingle. The accommodations were fantastic with modern top quality kitchen & bath features yet appointed with items from Lorraine's travel. From our balcony we had endless views of the city & Bay. This is a must if you are staying in Russell. Leigh & John from Poway, California

Dear John and Leigh, Thank you very much for your great review, thank you also for bringing a plate of eats for all the guest to share. Hope your future plans for two months on South Island all come together nicely. Just sorry that Peter was away and not able to meet the two of you.
