“Wow what an outstanding day and hosts”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Thank you Robin and Rick you are truly wonderful hosts and we had a great time out in the bay with you guys. We started our day from the wharf at Russel where we were met by Captain Rick and his first mate Robin. After a bit of a chin wag and a discussion on about using the head (toilet) we set of. It was a very calm morning so we slowly made our way out to Roberton Island along the way catching a glimpse of Kahawai, Blue Penguins and Bottlenose Dolphins.
Arriving at Roberton Island we then jumped ship and swam ashore and then climbed to the top of the lookout with amazing views out over the bay. See photos. We then swam back to the Phantom for a great conversation over a wonderful light lunch that Robin had prepared. After lunch we set sail as the afternoon winds had picked up. Rick set up the spinnaker and we were away. Nothing can quite compare with the sensation of sailing on the ocean with nothing but the help of the wind. Again we were visited by Dolphins as we headed back into Russell with the assistance of an easterly breeze. What an awesome day out. A trip that is not to be missed. You must do this if you are staying in Paihia or Russell. The Phantom only leaves from Russell so if you are staying in Paihia just jump on the ferry over to the Russell and meet them there.

How can we say thank you for such a wonderful review. We both had a great day with the two of you, and we really appreciate the fantastic pictures you put on with your review. Just to set the record straight, so as not too confuse any sailors reading your review, we set a genoa instead of a spinnaker. Just shows you the benefit of taking small numbers on the boat, we can have a great day with just two guests on board. Really great meeting you both!

This was our second sailing trip with the Phantom and it was as awesome as the first one. Rick and Robin made this journey again to a special one! We love the hospitality of them both. Robin's homemade food was again exceptional yummy! We won't hesitate to do it a third time!

“Best way to discover the Bay of islands”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Sailing on the Phantom with hosts Rick & Robin is the best way to discover the bay of islands and visit one of the lovely islands during the day. Lovely hosts, great organic homemade lunch, sharing stories and above all: Great sailing. No matter the weather the Phantom is a great yaught for novices and experienced sailors. Plenty of room to manoevre and do some sunbathing if weather permits it. We have been on the phantom with our own group that was over 10 people and even then there was still plenty of space...

Can't thank you enough for bringing your tour groups to sail with us. It's been great getting to know you over the summer. Hope we see you again. Keep up the great caring work that you do showing your fellow countrymen and women around NZ. They have a great guide in you.

“And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,”

Apologies John Masefield, now for the review, great bay ,great weather ,great boat and crew, great lunch from Robin and great stories from the skipper/raconteur Rick,
There are plenty of other ways to look around the Bay of islands but none better I would venture than a leisurely days sailing in a 70,s classic racing sloop where the character of the boat and crew are indivisible.Really terrific as the scenery, the dolphins etc are the trinity of Rick,Robin and the Phantom made the day. Highly recommended.

What a delightful review- lots of panache! Thanks for that!. So glad you also included some of the the day's photos as I know you had a great time with that camera. Since Brisbane is not that far away - hope we meet again (maybe your wife will be able to come next time).

“Excellent Day Sailing in the Bay of Islands”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

When we called Rick, they were actually on the West Coast on their first break of the season. My wife and I wanted to go out the next day so they came back to Russell early to take us out, even though we were the only two going out that day.
The day was the highlight of the Bay of Islands for us. Sailing, swimming, fishing, spotting penguins and dolphins etc. It felt more like going sailing with friends than a commercial excursion. Their obvious love for taking people out sailing is what made the day really special, and I would recommend sailing with them to anyone visiting the Bay of Islands. Thanks Rick and Robyn for a great day out! - "We think very highly of you!"

We had no second thoughts about coming back to Russell to spend the day with you. It was a lot of fun for us sharing stories and laughter. You're a great couple; hope NY is warming up and by the way "we love you".
