We stayed 3 nights at Ambleside B & B in August and there was nothing we didn't like. We spent a lot of time deciding where to stay in Nelson, but this place stood out from the rest and we decided to give it a go. We soon understood why the reviews are so good. Robyn and Kees made us feel very welcome, in ways big and small, from the moment we arrived to the moment we had to leave. The Burgundy room we stayed in (they even upgraded us to a better room since the B&B was not fully booked) was very comfortable and nicely decorated, the attention to detail is amazing. The breakfast was indeed excellent and the Wi-Fi connection worked perfectly. We got useful advice on what to do in Nelson and for instance booking our trip to Abel Tasman National Park was very easy with the help we got from Robyn and Kees. But these are just examples. The hospitality and friendliness of the hosts is something exceptional. During our 3 weeks holiday in NZ, this was the best place we stayed in, hands down.

You won't find nicer hosts than Robyn and Kees, so if you stay in this area for Nelson or Abel Tasman, then I doubt you'll find better. The accommodation was lovely, and very well arranged, so that you have enough privacy, with separate access to your room, but you still feel that you are sharing their home, so a really nice balance. The food was wonderful, and Kees produces a lot of his own fruit, etc. Breakfast were great, and Robyn and Kees were more than happy to offer advice on tours etc. We also took advantage of Robyn's offer to launder some of our clothes for a very nominal charge, all nicely pressed and on our bed when we got back from a day out...first class !
Robyn and Kees are lovely caring people, and you run a lovely B&B, thanks for making it a lovely relaxing two nights with you.

Robyn and Kees are great hosts and did everything they could to make my 2 night stay as enjoyable as possible. Kees picked me up from the airport in the evening after my flights had been delayed and then cooked me supper as I'd not been able to get anything to eat for dinner. After a great cooked breakfast in the morning he then dropped me off for a tour with an early start so that I didn't have to rush. The B&B is very comfortable and lovingly looked after and it was a great place to start my holiday.

The Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle boat leaves from the wharf just down the road from us, and although they provide a great service by picking up the guests from our door, it is a little early for some, so it is our pleasure to be able to take our guests to the boat quite a bit later allowing a bit more time for a sleep-in and a good breakfast. All part of the service and nothing is too much trouble!

If you happen to be in Nelson I wouldn't pass this place up. It's beautifully presented but not to the degree where you're frightened to touch anything. Our room was very comfortable and the biggest bathroom ever. There is a communal loungeroom with tea and coffee making facilities, tv etc. Also the free wifi was very efficient. Breakfast was served in the kitchen around a communal table and the food........... wow is all I can say!!!!! Kees, Robyn and Chelsea are wonderful hosts and this is like staying with a favourite relative.

Thank you so much for a great review! Chelsea is our beloved and middle-aged cat and very much a part of the family. She loves to hang out with our guests, but does not require cuddling or a lap to sit on. She does have some interesting poses and has been very much photographed this season! As our mantra is "do unto others..." we are delighted to know we have been compared to a beloved relation!

We spent 4 delightful nights at Ambleside and were thoroughly spoiled by Robyn and Kees. Nothing was too much trouble and every comfort was thought of in advance. Everything you've read in the other reviews is true, including the hospitality, delicious breakfasts and baked goodies, and just the relaxed ambience of the place. Robyn spent time helping us choose local spots of interest to visit and both she and Kees certainly fulfilled their charter of providing stimulating conversation. It was the most enjoyable way to end our NZ holiday and we cannot recommend Ambleside B & B highly enough. Jenni and Mike, Perth

Room Tip: There are 4 rooms and all of them were beautifully presented. At the back, you are treated to the ducks chatting away in the brook behind the property.
