Description: Bacco is the Roman God of Wine, Bacco Restaurant and Wine Bar changed its ownership and name from Café Affair in October 2016. We are a premium wine bar/restaurant with an Italian/European spin to our dishes. We are all about fresh, local ingredients where possible and we have a food matching our premium wines philosophy. Bacco has a wine club and holds Degustation dinners bi-monthly.

“A little disappointing”
Reviewed October 8, 2010

We went to Cafe Affair, for a Birthday tea for my son. Two of us had Chicken Burgers, the chicken was so overcooked and rubbery we could hardly cut through it.I took home mine, for the dog, as too expensive not to take,he even had trouble! The Stone grill menu said included vegetable kebab with all meals, but we never saw these with ours. There was no tomato sauce or sour cream provided with the wedges.

Desserts were well overdone ,guessing microwaved from the freezer. Very dry and bland.

A very small table was used which made dining difficult as stone grill takes up a bit of room,.

We had booked early in the day, there seemed to be plenty of other larger tables, the waitress even commented the table was small, but made no offer to move us to a larger one.

“Great Place to eat”
Reviewed May 9, 2010

While we were in Nelson for 2 days we went here for Breakfast and also to eat in the evening, both times the food was very good and I would recommend that everyone try it in the evening as the food is great and the staff are excellent.

“Cook your own grill on the hot rock slabs!!”
Reviewed April 4, 2010

Very busy each of the two nights we ate there, but they quickly sorted out a table for us.
The 'piazza' scene on the street is pretty, the atmosphere lively and the food good. We enjoyed cooking our meat on skewers on the hot rock slab; chips were excellent.

“One of the best places to eat in NZ”
Reviewed January 29, 2010

I had a chicken breast sandwich on Turkish bread (Chicken Burger NZ$13.50), a small side salad (NZ$3.50), and a Chocolate Mude Cake with ice cream (NZ$12.50) on my first night in Nelson. I came the 2nd and the 3rd day and ate the same selection! Excellent food and excellent dessert. It is not easy to find a place where the food and dessert are both very nice. I went for an early dinner on the 1st day so didn't have to wait. The 2nd day, I went for late lunch but still ordered from the dinner/lunch menu (even though kitchen was offering bar menu). There was no long waits on any of the 3 days I ate there.
