A very good dinner on Saturday was so good that we returned for breakfast later in the week.
Food and service on both visits was good and unobtrusive.

We stopped here on our way to Abel Tasman Park. We sat on the water and had a delicious lunch of fresh oysters and mussels, very nice server, quick and delightful!

Our table by the waterfront was perfection - watching the sun set over the bay was absolute bliss. The food was exquisite, even though I am vegetarian and the menu is nearly all meat. We were offered something bespoke suited to me, but declined and went for a mix of veggie smaller dishes and sides. Perfect paired ingredients cooked beautifully, I was genuinely impressed! Pudding to die for! Staff so friendly and accommodating with a real passion for the place. Thank you for looking after us. If we didn’t live on the other side of the world, we would be back (regularly)!!

Last minute decision to try an old favourite. We were last there 20 years ago.
The three of us were seated by a lovely waitress and we had a spot with a view (but not outside on the deck).
We were quite hungry and started with bruschetta - salmon and avocado with sesame. Just the right amount for us and beautiful seared salmon. A real quality starter so our expectations were high for the 2 small plates to share. Fried whitebait and baked mussels with breadcrumb and cheese. The whitebait were cooked perfectly and we were keen for more (pure greed really), the baked mussels were also nicely cooked and hot and tasty. I wasn’t sure if the filament was meant to be left in or if we were meant to remove this ourselves but otherwise.... really delicious and I’ll be trying this one back home.
Mains were duck (medium rare), market fish as Snapper and soufflé. We also had the cheese mash and pumpkin/ kumara as sides with pomegranate seeds and yoghurt. All just delicious!!
Finally, the desserts sticky date, Eton Mess and choc mousse and apricot purée.
These were all just the bees knees and not too much after quite a big meal.
So all in all hard to find fault with any of the dishes and it has great atmosphere and really lovely staff - highly recommended.
