“Simply the best in nelson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

The food, the staff, the ambience all made for a super evening.
Well worth a visit.
I had the crayfish and my partner the steak - both were flavoursome and well presented.
We found it to be good value for money with food packed with flavour and well presented.

“Trades heavily on its location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2013

I've eaten here a number of times for lunch with friends and family. The food is good but not great and portions are on the small side for the steepish prices you pay. Drinks prices are eye-watering high...be warned.

All in all, if they charged these prices for the same quality food at a place in, say, Hardy Street this cafe wouldn't do half as well as it does. Location, location, location eh?

“Overpriced for what it is”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

Our motel owners recommended this restaurant.....good was good...but very small portions and side dishes were extra. Overall....grossly overpriced for the quality and quantity of food served. If we ever went back to Nelson we wouldn't bother to go back.

“Dinner on a busy night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2013

We turned up without a reservation on a very busy night. They said they could take us if we didn't mind waiting 20 minutes. We agreed as long as it wasn't going to be longer. We sat at the bar and had an excellent glass of wine and shared a starter between us while we waited. The food was excellent. After a lot of asking we were finally seated after 45 minutes. When the waitress took our order she said it would be a 30 minute wait to get our main course unless we ordered fish and then it could be a bit less. After the long wait already we knew that dinner was a long way off so we left. The location is OK but just looks out at a blank bit of sea.

“Magic water view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013

We were here for lunch, and seated on the verandah area over the water. An inside seat would not give such panoramic water views. We saw a baby seal cruise past, a container ship came through the narrow harbor opening, and a large shoal of fish, pursued by a large flock of gulls, right under our window. Great photos. Lunch portions, avg $20, are small. Wine was $12.50 glass. Total $65 for two. A bit pricey, but food was delicious. Service good, but they didn't explain what Trust The Chef was all about, so we didn't go there. Parking in the area is at a premium. Booking recommended.
