We had originally booked two nights at Wakefield but due to floods and road closures in the glacier area we had to take crazy detours to make it to Nelson some 24 hours later. We were lucky to have Woodi holding the reservation for us and cheering us on every time we called in to report on progress (or lack of it :) So when we finally made it to Nelson, tired to the bone, what a sight for sore eyes Wakefield Quay House was! The house is immensely beautiful, renovated with great attention to detail and tastefully mixing old with new. The view from our room's bathroom and balcony was just to die for! Last but not least, Woodi and Johnny are excellent and entertaining hosts - having bubbly and snacks with them on the patio in the glow of late afternoon sun was a blast. Woodi also serves a delicious breakfast in the morning, so worth getting out of the bed for. If you feel like getting pampered, this is THE place to stay in Nelson. Excellent value for money; we cannot recommend it highly enough. Triin & Anton from Estonia

We stayed at Wakefield Quay House for a couple of nights recently. Every little detail has been thought of, from the luxurious bedrooms, fantastic views, the evening drinks and nibbles, and the helpful advice on where to go & what to do. Johnny & Woodi were excellent hosts, making us feel very welcome and not at all like we were in a B&B. Woodi's breakfasts were absolutely delicious & she also kindly put in a call to the Boat Shed Restaurant to upgrade our table! Can't recommend this place highly enough - would definitely stay there again! Such a change from our van! :-)

Stayed for 3 nights and the experience was fantastic! Woodi and Johnny sure makes our stay a pleasant one.
Gave us wonderful advises of places to visit in Nelson and thus we had a interesting day exploring Abel Tasman, peaceful time at Motueka, excellent Thai food at the Nelson weekend market, and an interesting wine tasting experience at Blenheim.

Staying in the crow's nest was wonderful with the private balcony overlooking the bay. Room is cosy, neat and clean. The spacious bathroom is a dear to be in, with the windows opening to the balcony thus ensuring wonderful view while spending time on the throne, looking down at your 'empire'.

Woodi prepares great breakfast and it is really wonderful to enjoy a meal and learn more about the lifestyle of the locals during the chats with Woodi and Johnny.

Wakefield Quay House will definitely be my only choice of home should we visit Nelson again!

Room Tip: Had a look in The Captain's after the fellow roommates checkout and its a cosy little room with a bay window overlooking the bay. But personally would recommend the Crow's Nest as the balcony (with a pair of antique binocular) is nice place to chill out.

What a find. Centrally located with fabulous views of the harbour. Woodi and Johnny have thought of every detail that makes for an extremely enjoyable stay. Great evening drinks and nibbles on the deck, with helpful advice for the next day's tour. Five minutes walk to the Boat Shed Restaurant and Harbour Lights Bistro. Our day then started off with a fabulous breakfast cooked by Woodi. We would highly recommend Wakefield Quay House. Rosemary and Howard.

Wakefield Quay House is a beautifully maintained, gorgeous house right on the Tasman Bay and very close to downtown Nelson. My wife and I stayed two nights there recently. As beautiful as the house is, what made our stay truly special was the hospitality of Woodi and Johnny. Thanks to their help, we were instantly plugged into the best things to do in the Nelson area. In addition, we really enjoyed hanging out with them over the best wine that Nelson has to offer in the evenings and over a wonderful, organic, locally-sourced breakfast in the mornings. In sum, they were the ideal hosts and we had a blast in Nelson with their help.

Be aware that Wakefield Quay is quite pricey and cost more than any other place we stayed in New Zealand. That said, it was well worth the cost due to Woodi and Johnny's amazing hospitality.
