We stopped in for lunch and were very pleased to get seating on the veranda. It was shady and breezy on that hot summer day.

Service was professional and friendly. The food was well presented with fresh ingredients.

Be careful of the driveway: there are two and we came in, apparently, from the back way and almost got ourselves stuck behind the building.

Wow this place is awesome - we have been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. The staff are amazing and the food is devine, not to mention the presentation of everything. We just love to come back :-)

Melrose cafe is located in a hilly residential neighbourhood around 10 mins walk (behind the church) outside of nelson town. Not too convenient a walk if you have to navigate through an eccentric summer of rain just like we had to. However, it was absolutely worth the while once we got there. Cafe was in the melrose House, a quaint and colonial style building. Though it was only Thursday afternoon, the place was fully packed with elderly people having an afternoon get together. We managed to get a seat for 2 after 20 mins wait. We ordered a unique capsicum soup that was highly refreshing amidst the cold summer weather, a breakfast set of eggs sausages and bacon, and miso salmon. We ended off with two pots of tea. Interestingly, all food and drinks were served with victorian utensils and wares (this i later found out were donated by the people of nelson - Melrose was bequeathed to the nelson town council by the late owner). Food was made using fresh ingredients (just as all food is made in nz) and I left highly satisfied. Restaurant staff were also polite and helpful. All in all Melrose cafe made for a great afternoon of food and relaxation amidst a great historic nelson setting.

This is one of Nelson's best kept secrets. A great place for breakfast, brunch or a full on, gourmet Luncheon. A beautiful old mansion set in a quiet part of Nelson with plenty of big trees and flowers, to set the scene. A limited menu but what they do is "GREAT". Be prepared to be, WOWED! The food is cooked to perfection and plate presentation is probably the best in Nelson.
The wine list again is limited but one will find a small but varied collection of some of Nelson's medium priced wines. The service is prompt and efficient and I've yet to have a waitress serve me with her bejeweled "Bellybutton" and fat on display. Angela and her staff get my vote as Nelsons top restaurant......................., I so wish they did dinner.
P.S. We also attended a wedding which was held there and it was nothing short of, "Superb".

The food and service are great. The atmosphere is old world and beautifully detailed. Lunches are amazing but make sure to book well in advance.
