“Time out in Nelson”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

A really interesting collection of buildings with some extras including a very good cafe (where they also brew beer). Good value and worth a visit

“Worth the money”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

The entrance fee was well worth it. I found that the different stores and homes were great to look at. I have been to others (Howick Village - Auckland) and Gold Reef City - Johannesburg, South Africa) and I never tire of wanting to see how the people lived "back in the day".
Would recommend.
The Bakery was changing hands and teh new owner especially allowed me to look around and discussed his ideas.

“Must-see attraction - just keep your expectations within bounds”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

Founders Park is a bit of an oddity as it comprises a mish-mash of relocated buildings housing an eclectic horde of donated items from an Bristol Freighter aeroplane to old glass bottles and sundry time expired industrial equipment. The historic railway which runs over weekends is a stand-out and worth the price of admission alone...without it,however....

Apart from the railway, the problem is a lack of any coherent pattern theme to grip the visitor's imagination. In reality it becomes a park holding a seemingly random collection of individual and disparate displays. Sadly too, many of the buildings look tired and the displays cluttered and dusty...some haven't changed in the near 20 years I've lived in Nelson. They seem to have put more money into the place in recent years, which is good, but don't expect a full-on visitor experience. Local history buffs and families wanting to entertain the kids for a few hours will enjoy it...especially the train ride. Not recommended on a rainy winter's day.

It's busy over summer at weekends but pretty much lifeless at other times. The Annual Book Fair (June) is a must-visit for folk wanting car boot loads of reading material.
